📣 Funding for a new phase of the SIF BLADE project, which is researching how offshore wind farms provide restoration services to the onshore grid, has been announced! 👏 This will allow offshore wind to offer a vital ancillary service, traditionally provided by fossil fuel-heavy generation, to help maintain the resilience of the network and the decarbonisation of the electricity sector. Building on the positive findings of the first two phases of the project, this new phase aims to resolve the commercial and technical unknowns of bringing these technologies to market. This project combines two world-leading R&D programmes: Ofgem's Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) and the Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA). This will create a powerful consortium, including ScottishPower Networks Transmission, SSEN Transmission , National Grid ESO, University of Strathclyde, TNEI and the Carbon Trust representing the OWA developers: EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, Equinor, Ørsted, RWE, ScottishPower Renewables, Shell, SSE Renewables, TotalEnergies and Vattenfall, as well as two new developer partners bp and OW Ocean Winds. This project is funded by network users and consumers under the Strategic Innovation Fund, an Ofgem programme managed in partnership with UKRI #OfgemSIF Innovate UK #OffshoreWind #WindFarms #OffshoreWindEnergy Find out more➡️https://lnkd.in/eaSjK3K6

Five lessons learned on the journey to Net Zero – a thought leadership piece by Michael Rea, the Carbon Trust’s Chief Executive Officer. Michael said, “when I joined the Carbon Trust in 2002, some of my ex-management consultant colleagues were baffled by my decision. At the time, climate change was not seen by many as a relevant issue to business, with Net Zero strategies viewed as a 'nice to have' versus a 'must have'.” After 20+ years of experience at the Carbon Trust, a global climate consultancy, find out Michael’s lessons learned ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ef_GXw-m

Did you know that food systems are estimated to be responsible for around a third of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, half of which is caused by food loss and waste? Food sent to landfills generates large volumes of methane, which is up to 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas. We are pleased to be working with The Global FoodBanking Network and the Global Methane Hub to develop a methodology for measuring the volume of methane that can be avoided by food banks. This means food banks around the world will now be able to use the methodology to better measure and understand how to reduce methane from food collection and distribution, while also tackling hunger and food waste.
