Marketing Placement student at Haleon | Studying Management(marketing) at the University of Manchester

Last week I had the privilege to attend the Black X conference hosted by Oluwatoga (Toga) Balogun and Oyinda Adeniyi I enjoyed listening to Sharon Amesu and Torrin Andrews 🚀 as they shared insights on their careers and keys to maximise our talents. The session about Black people in Corporate spaces was filled with words of wisdom from Sharon and key takeaways: - The importance of Radical self acceptance(RSA) - As you climb the ladders, there will be fewer and fewer people that look like you - We are trailblazers, we are door openers The creative workshop was thought provoking, as we were challenged to turn our mundane moments into a story that the audience can resonate with. The fireside chat was just as insightful, as George Obolo and Foluso Falade shared their experiences and advice to navigate the professional environment: “Character will take you to places that information on google won’t” “Surround yourself with people that will give you character advice” George mentioned that we should be cautious with being too transactional when building connections. This resonated with as it is a mistake I have made when networking in the past. Another key quote was:” Sacrifice is healthy but often compromise isn’t”. It was a pleasure to share this experience with Emeka Izunwa , Oluchi Ijeh , Vidal Beta , Elie Mukinyi Vuza and Sara Buadi. A big thank you to Manchester 10/10 and The Black Excellence Network for making such a wonderful event possible. #BlackExcellence #Trailblazers #DoorOpeners #Networking #RadicalSelfAcceptance #MaximizingMundaneMoments #CharacterBuilding

2nd Year Information Technology Management for Business Student | The University of Manchester

Last week I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Black X Conference by The Black Excellence Network It was amazing getting to engage in the workshop held by Foluso Falade and listen to her talk about entrepreneurship Her passion for entrepreneurship really resonated with me, especially about breaking free from the thoughts and doubts of impostor syndrome. It was amazing getting to hear about her experiences, truly inspiring. I also got to sit in on a workshop with Mabel Ochebiri who spoke about the power of storytelling, it was inspiring to hear her story from Mabel to Mabel.tech. It was a great opportunity to learn about the importance of storytelling and how it's a skill that can really help you to further progress in your career. To top it all off the fireside chat with George Obolo and Foluso Falade was insightful, their advice on relational connections over being transactional was eye-opening, as well as their advice on having character and overall being your yourself whilst navigating professional environments was amazing to be a part of. Once again thank you to The Black Excellence Network and the Manchester 10/10 group for putting the work into putting on such an excellent event
