Lesson around Water Safety with Mr A! 🙌 As the Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK celebrates a decade of Drowning Prevention Week (DPW), it has been an honour to be involved in helping spread awareness about water safety as RLSS step into decade number 2! We put together a short lesson on how children can learn to be safe in and around water. I received this fabulous feedback from a Dad of two this morning. Over the past few months, I have seen it has helped both my children to move away from props and develop their mental maths abilities. I’ll share a video of them in action when I get a chance. We used props initially to help him understand the concept of counting but quickly transitioned into harnessing our mental maths abilities. Last night was a great one as I connected with a long lost childhood friend after 17 years and given the time differences, we ended up speaking for over an hour at midnight! When the Department for Business and Trade invited me to write a thought leadership content piece on what’s stopping the large number of micro and small businesses in the country from exporting, I thought what better platform than the UK government DBT to share my story and encourage, in my own small capacity, UK businesses to fly the #MadeInTheUK flag in countries far and wide! #Exporting / #InternationalTrade is not easy nor straightforward but it is rewarding enough to make you take the plunge. Thanks to my education in #Economics, I always understood that whilst trading in the domestic market will no doubt bring you the confidence, it is only with international trade that new monies will be introduced into the economy - the former merely enables the exchange of currency from one hand to another within the country, you need the latter for the economy to grow. In the article below, I talk about our own challenges, our journey into exporting, albeit in small quantities at the moment, how I encourage #UKbusinesses to export as a Help to Grow Mentor and how the support we have available in the UK both from the private sector and through government initiatives such as the Help to Grow campaign by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, wholeheartedly supported by the powerhouse that is Kevin Hollinrake Minister for Enterprise, Markets & Small Business, the UK Export Academy, the DBT and also the huge efforts from large corporates such as Santander UK Santander UK Corporate & Commercial Santander Navigator and of course Enterprise Nation are too good to ignore. I remember discussing with John Carroll Santander UK Corporate & Commercial a few months ago “Running a business is no mean feat! You go from 9-5 to 24/7 and have to remain forever switched on, and all of this alongside raising a young family! You have to figure out about opportunities that you don’t know exist, overcome fears and challenges that you don’t know will be in your way and try to work with people who will help you in your journey but don’t know where to find them!” The #entrepreneurial and #parenting journey is a deadly mix!
