Tate & Lyle's purpose, Transforming Lives Through the Science of Food, inspires everything we do. Whether it’s by making food and drink healthier and tastier; continuously improving how we work; promoting a safe working environment; or making a difference to our local communities, we believe we can successfully grow our business and have a positive impact on society. What is it we do? Simply put, we make healthy food tastier and tasty food healthier. Our work is driven by consumer health needs and trends, governments desire to build and support healthy communities, and the need for affordable food and nutrition in many parts of the world. We deliver ingredients and solutions to meet all these needs. Our speciality sweeteners and fibres help reduce sugar and calories. Our fibres fortify food and improve digestive health. Our texturants and stabilising systems help extend shelf-life and make food manufacturing easier. Across the globe, we are transforming lives through the science of food. We are delighted to today announce a strategic partnership, known as The Natural Sweetener Alliance, with Manus to expand access to natural sugar reduction solutions. This sets a new standard for efficient ingredient production to meet growing customer and consumer demand for natural sweeteners.     On the 24 October we launched ALFIE, the Automated Laboratory for Ingredient Experimentation! On the day attendees sampled a number of delicious prototypes using our range of ingredients. Baked Mochi Pops – Unique, crispy, light, chewy bakery bites with delicious filling using our MIRA-THIK® Starch and REZIST® Starch ingredients. Sriracha Mayo – All the flavour of spicy Sriracha and the creaminess of mayonnaise but without egg and reduced fat, using our MIRA-THIK® Starch, STAMIST® Starch and PROMITOR® Dietary Fibre ingredients. Gummies – The natural sweetness and the joy of gummies but without added sugar, using our DOLCIA PRIMA® Allulose, PROMITOR® Dietary Fibre and EUOLIGO® FOS ingredients. Did you know… 🥗 more than half of consumers are buying clean label product for health reasons 🥗 nearly three quarters say that ‘natural’ ingredients are healthier for them 🥗 two in three say products with ‘natural’ ingredients are better quality 🥗 while almost half consider products made with ‘natural’ ingredients as an indicator of value for money 🥗 with more than two-thirds paying high or very high attention to the ingredients in their food and drink This is an opportunity that can’t be ignored, and our report explores insights like these as well as a range of solutions that meet consumers’ clean label criteria.     Today, we announced a ground-breaking leap in our journey towards the future of food innovation with the launch of ‘ALFIE’ – the Automated Laboratory for Ingredient Experimentation! ALFIE is a pioneering automated robotics system set to redefine product development in the food & beverage industry. Housed in our Customer Collaboration and Innovation Centre (CCIC) in Singapore and connected to our CCIC in Hoffman Estates near Chicago, it is designed to accelerate the pace of our global innovation in mouthfeel, texturants, and starches. 🚀Speed to Market: ALFIE has the ability to run characterisation tests at around 10 times the current rate and enhanced predictive modelling, allowing new ingredients to be trialled more efficiently. 🧵Tailored solutions: A revolutionary tool that will better predict product performance in food manufacturing lines, allowing for faster, improved solutions to customer challenges. 🕛24/7 Innovation: ALFIE provides round-the-clock chemistry with two independent robotic systems. 🌐Global Connectivity: Operated by our on-site scientists in Singapore and virtually by our R&D hub in Chicago.   "This innovation brought by ALFIE will enable us to further push the boundaries of making healthy food tastier and tasty food healthier, ultimately improving consumer choice."     "Reducing sugar is not just a trend, it’s a necessity for the future of food.” This was a key takeaway for Sophia Pai, our Vice President of Application and Technical Services, when she joined a panel discussion at the Advancing Sugar Reduction & Reformulation Summit this week in Atlanta, US. Our Principal Scientist, Melissa Kaczmarczyk, was also there and led a talk on assessing the impact of sweeteners and prebiotic fibers on the gut microbiome. The Summit was a fantastic opportunity to connect with industry leaders, innovators, and experts - all coming together with a shared vision of creating healthier food and beverage products. It is clear that as consumers demand healthier, better-for-you options, the need for reformulation solutions has never been more urgent. At Tate & Lyle, we are proud to be pioneers in driving the science behind ingredient structure-function and developing cutting-edge formulation solutions to address these challenges. Since 2021 we have been working with local women stevia farmers in China, helping them to reduce their environmental impact, boost their productivity and their livelihoods. This ‘farmer first’ approach connects farmers, suppliers and customers with consumers, and benefits not only the women smallholders but also the wider regional economy.     This World Mental Health Day we want to highlight what we as a business are doing to support those who work in our business, whether they be our employees or contractors. Our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) offers access to health and wellbeing tools and support to each employee and members of their household. This service is free to our people and available 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We have trained 100 mental health first aiders across our sites globally. This year our network grew again, with our first volunteers in our Middle East and Africa region. We organise discussions on broader mental health related challenges. For example, in the US, its popular Wellbeing Wednesdays sessions have covered a range of topics, such as financial wellbeing and emotional strength. Our aim is to ensure that everyone in our business: 🫶can proactively invest in their own mental health 🦾is equipped to empathise with and support colleagues 🤝is supported when they face challenges with their mental health. Health and wellbeing are part of our purpose targets, and we track how we’re doing through our annual employee survey.
