The Architecture Today piece ‘Barriers to change’ features some interesting insights into the obstacles hindering the move towards regenerative architecture. As part of Tate + Co's submission to the recently launched Regenerative Architecture Index, we were asked what we consider to be the most significant barriers in our efforts to transition to regenerative practice. Please follow the link below for our response and to read the full article. https://lnkd.in/ekg6Kpuh Our project The Creative Centre at York St. John University is an example of successful regenerative design. For example, the main teaching block incorporates options for multiple, future scenarios. The building also substantially improves biodiversity and has yielded a 53% BNG improvement figure for the city centre site. Please do join us at the University Design Forum’s upcoming Reference Visit to York St. John University. Taking place on 30 October, Andrew Baker-Falkner, Director here at Tate + Co, will be delivering the ‘Creative Centre Case Study: Connecting the campus using a low carbon, flexible building’. The Creative Centre, opened in 2021, brings arts, research and practice together under one roof. Low embodied carbon materials, such as glulam and CLT, were used for the construction of the building and a ‘fabric-first’ approach, embracing Passivhaus principles, resulted in a Breeam Assessment Excellent rating. The event will include a presentation, Q&A session and tour of the centre. Refreshments will be available. Find out more about our work at the Creative Centre at York St John University here: https://lnkd.in/euc66Yzh And please do book your ticket for the afternoon event here: https://lnkd.in/eZpm2ir6 We hope to see you there! #architecture #universitydesign #sustainabledesign #regenerativedesign #education #lowcarbon #flexiblespaces #passivhaus

'Just a quick reminder about this evening’s 'In the City' event ... Tate + Co will be hosting the latest in the series of ‘In the City’ conversations at The Society Building in London this evening and will be discussing 'Culture in the City'. London has a global reputation for outstanding cultural institutions but these tend to be centred around established areas. What happens when we create new neighbourhoods? How can we ensure that these burgeoning communities also benefit from their own, meaningful spaces and creative organisations? We have a truly amazing panel who will explore these questions and more. There will also be plenty of opportunity to catch up over drinks before and after the discussion. There are just a few places left so if you would like to join us, please do book your ticket via the eventbrite link below: https://lnkd.in/eibxWTuj THIS EVENT IS FREE TO ATTEND. We do hope you can join us! #cultureinthecity #london #museums #arts #artinthecommunity #culture

Thanks so much to Ben Flatman and Building Design. for publishing our opinion piece ‘Let’s turn the ‘grey belt’ green'. In the article, Jerry Tate, Founder and Director here at Tate + Co and author of the piece, considers strategies for securing consent on grey belt sites and ultimately delivering sustainable housing developments across the UK. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eU7dveRR The article refers to the Esholt Positive Living development. Our ‘whole site’ approach sought to replace a redundant water treatment plant with new homes and commercial development. As part of the Open House Festival 2024, the The Brunel Museum opened its doors and welcomed visitors to explore Brunel’s Engine House and Tunnel Shaft. Tate + Co was delighted to be part of the event, joining guided tours to discuss the incredible history of the Thames Tunnel as well as plans for the upcoming renovation. Jerry Tate, Director and Founder here at Tate+Co, and architects Hannah Pinsent and Nikita Schweizer were on hand to talk through our ambitious designs for the Museum and answer any questions. With Gail Dickerson presenting 'Excavate', a temporary exhibition, and the launch of the new installation, 'There and Back Again', by the museum’s Artist-in-Residence, mhairi (vari) quarm, Open House at The Brunel Museum proved to be a popular event within the community and beyond. The Museum will be closing soon with the 'Brunel Museum Reinvented Project' commencing October 2024.
