A Fantastic first day at the intercharge network conference 2024 network conference 2024 in Berlin, hosted at the historic Tempelhof Airport. Some key themes from todays panels included: Reliability, regulation and profitability We took particular interest in the panel titled ‘Can regulation boost reliability?’. Moderated by the brilliant Dr. Johanna Bronisch, Matthew Adams, John Smart, Lucie Mattera and Maciej Mazur discussed their respective opinions and governing region’s approach to regulating the EV industry. There were differing points of view on government involvement but what we found striking was the lack of consistency across regulating authorities. The EU, UK and US has each taken their own approach to regulating the market which may lead to cross border confusion without proper consultation. Whilst each regulator’s approach differs, one thing is clear: EV charging regulation should be taken seriously by landlords and Charge Point Operators alike. Syzygy is supporting clients in a time of impending restrictions to deliver end-to-end consultancy throughout their EV charging journey. A successful event full of valuable insight. Welcome to The Wave – the UK’s first inland surfing destination powered by renewable energy! 🌊 Our recent achievement of winning the Sustainability Initiative award at the Property Week awards 2024 for our work with The Wave is a testament to what an amazing project this is. At Syzygy, we’re proud to have played a key role in bringing this groundbreaking project to life. A special recognition to Bartosz Slusarczyk and Kirsty Berry and to the team at The Wave for all their hard work.   The Wave is powered by: - 156kW vanadium flow battery with 440kWh capacity 🔋 - 30kWp solar carport with 2x22kW dual EV chargers ☀ - 2.5kWp ‘Smartflower’ PV installation that tracks the sun 🌻 With a 3MWp ground-mounted array, The Wave has generated 3 million kWh of renewable energy in its first year – more than enough to power the lake and facilities, making it an operational net zero site. In year one alone, The Wave offsets 574 tonnes of CO2, with a projected 12,915 tonnes over 25 years – equivalent to planting 600,000 trees. 🌳 Surplus energy is even exported back to the grid, contributing to a greener future! From financial modelling and feasibility to ongoing asset management, Syzygy has been involved every step of the way to ensure The Wave is a shining example of sustainable innovation. We are thrilled to announce that Syzygy has been shortlisted from over 200 entries and are finalists in the Outstanding Carbon Reduction Initiative category for the Property Week ESG Edge Awards 2024! Our journey with Logicor began in June 2022, when together we embarked on an ambitious pan-European solar PV decarbonisation strategy. To date, we have successfully assessed 1.3m sqft of roofspace of 40 assets across the European portfolio, delivered two projects, a further two in procurement, offsetting over 135 metric tonnes of CO2 and generating over 600,000 kWh of clean, green energy. This week, two of Syzygy's team members James Shepherd and William Fish (MEng) were on-site to conduct a crucial roof survey for an upcoming PV installation project. ☀   Our site visits are a cornerstone of our comprehensive service offerings. Feasibility studies, in particular, are vital to ensuring the success of our projects.   During these visits, we meticulously check:   - The electrical infrastructure's suitability - The roof's load-bearing capacity for the PV system - On-site meter details - Potential locations for inverters   Skipping this step could lead to significant issues down the line, especially with more complex, larger systems. We have always seen ourselves as the navigator. A navigator for our clients, steering them through from the start to the finish of the decarbonising’ maze. Let’s be clear. As an independent ‘get things done’ adviser, project manager, asset manager - it isn’t ‘our’ money that’s being invested, they aren’t ‘our’ buildings that are being decarbonised - the heroes are our clients. So, ‘enabler’ of the year is probably the most appropriate moniker for Syzygy. That is what we do…we help others achieve their goals.
