In the 2024 General Election Stonehaven's MRP projection proved to be the closest of all 13 major models published. 🗳 Congratulations to our Data & Insight team, who over the last 2 years have built Stonehaven's inhouse modelling capability.   Our Head of Data Luke Betham and his team predicted: ▶ Labour 420 (Vs actual 412) ▶ Conservatives 115 (121) ▶ Lib Dems 67 (71) ▶ SNP 22 (9) ▶ Plaid Cymru (4) ▶ Reform 2 (4) ▶ Green 1(4)   The results recorded showed a combined total difference of just 36.   But this isn't the only way Luke and his team use MRP at Stonehaven. The value extends beyond projecting election outcomes. It a powerful tool to underpin policy and issue-based thinking and campaigns. This is how Stonehaven uses MRP for client challenges.    Taking the learnings and validations from election results, we have built a deep understanding of the UK population and where they stand on key issues shaping industry, society and politics.   This knowledge underpins the advice Stonehaven gives to clients on how and where to run campaigns, best connect with different audiences around the UK, and drive better outcomes for clients.   If you want to find out more, please get in touch.

"We live in a much less stable world now. These offshore wind farms will hold down bills in the face of a further crisis." Stonehaven’s Director of Policy, Adam Bell has featured in The Times discussing the potential for offshore wind farms to act as a shield against volatile gas prices in an increasingly unpredictable global landscape. The government’s latest auction, AR6, secured a record capacity of new renewable energy projects, including 9 large offshore wind farms to be built between 2027 and 2029. This development marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and stable energy future for the UK. A significant challenge still remains though for the Government to reach its 2030 targets. Get in touch to chat with one of our energy experts on the challenges and opportunities ahead for businesses in this space. We have reached a critical juncture in Britain with regards to energy infrastructure. The new Government’s plan to decarbonise power by 2030 is both ambitious and achievable, but if we are to meet their target of green energy in six years, then radical action is needed to tackle planning delays which are preventing vital developments from taking place.   To get to Clean Power by 2030, Stonehaven analysis indicates that the Government will need to deliver a further:   - 2GW of gas carbon capture and storage (CCS) - 4GW of long duration energy storage (LDES) - 25GW of offshore wind - 10GW of onshore wind - 20GW of solar - Transmission capacity to hook up new generation: ~500km of onshore capacity and ~2000km of subsea cables.   In our latest report commissioned by Project Tempo, “Healing a fragmented state”, we explore ways to reshape regulatory landscapes to speed up developments and promote economic growth.   Read the full report to explore our detailed insights and recommendations 👉 https://lnkd.in/eqK2V2AN

"They will have to put in a lot more connection capacity really, really quickly. That will involve new substations, new pylons, new underground cables." Adam Bell, Director of Policy at Stonehaven and former head of energy strategy for the UK government, has provided critical insights into the challenges and opportunities for the new Labour Government with their ambitious clean energy targets via The Times. The government has got off to a flying start by lifting the near-decade-long moratorium on onshore wind power, aiming to double capacity by 2030. However, with only one onshore wind turbine built in the last year it is clear there is a significant task ahead. Meeting the challenges ahead will require innovative policy thinking and swift action. Stonehaven's energy and policy experts are here to help businesses find ways to contribute to this transformative decade in the UK's energy system. The Government’s mission to decarbonise British power by 2030 is one of the most ambitious climate pledges in the Western world. Achieving it will require a radical, unprecedented overhaul of planning and procurement.   Today Stonehaven has published a new report, commissioned by Project Tempo, setting out how the new Government can meet its target. By creating a National Energy Plan, there is the opportunity to deliver not only a new regime for infrastructure, but a new wave of prosperity across Britain.   Read the full report: here: https://lnkd.in/eqK2V2AN

It's a BIG welcome back this morning to a few members of the Stonehaven team who have been out and about on the campaign trail as part of the UK General Election. Our colleagues took time off to support various parties and have returned with some great photos and a few stories.   Stonehaven's MRP modelling projections were the closest to the actual result but hats off to those actually on the ground campaigning throughout the election period and taking part in democracy. Alex Savage, Ciara Dullaghan, Harry Vincent, Adam McNicholas, Hamish Phelan

Labour is on track for 420 seats and a majority of 190 - bigger than 1997's hallmark victory under Tony Blair - Stonehaven's final MRP projects. 💻 The Conservatives by contrast are projected to win just 115 seats. Other interesting findings from the MRP include: 1️⃣ Modest gains for Reform, with Farage expected to secure Clacton with a comfortable margin and a potential Reform victory in Gainsborough where the margin is just over 300 votes. 2️⃣ A solidified Labour presence in Scotland, securing the highest number of seats in the region since 2010, and surpassing the SNP's 22 MPs with a total of 30. 3️⃣ A historic milestone for the Liberal Democrats, projected to win 67 seats – granting them their largest ever cohort of MPs in Parliament.
