📢 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 🏙️ The government’s 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 recently published their Terms of Reference (TOR). I was particularly struck by the emphasis that new towns must provide 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 and be 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱, 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 where people genuinely want to live. They also need the 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 to support thriving communities. The Taskforce’s role includes supporting the development of strong business cases that highlight the 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰, 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 of these new towns. 🏡 This ties directly into work we’re doing at Steer. A few weeks ago, I shared about our visit to the Department for Transport to present our new 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗜 (𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻) 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹. We discussed how models like ours can support economic appraisals for Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) business cases—particularly for 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲-𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 with 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀. 🌍 𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗜 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀, like the one we’ve developed, will be key in ensuring these new towns are not only 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳𝗲𝗱, but also provide forecasts of the impact on people, employers, transportation, and land use. In line with the TOR, we believe this kind of integrated approach will be 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 for delivering communities where people will thrive. At Steer, we are already working with several developers on potential new town projects. If you’d like to learn more about how our LUTI model can support your projects, feel free to reach out to me, Jon Williams, or Victoria Rees.   #wearesteer #Development #NewHomes
