Leading with Dedication and Heart at SSP Africa As we reflect on Women’s Month in South Africa, it’s the perfect time to spotlight one of SSP Limited Africa’s most inspiring leaders: Vanessa Le Roux. Vanessa's journey is a testament to resilience, hard work, and a deep commitment to excellence. As the Service and Operations Manager for Insurer Customer Service for Africa, Vanessa plays a key role in managing SSP’s customer service across the continent. She leads a team of nine, ensuring clients from 13 countries receive the support they need for their insurance-related queries. “Our team handles everything from logging incidents and managing service requests to resolving production issues, all while maintaining the highest standards of customer service,” Vanessa explains. Vanessa’s path to success is unique. Initially pursuing a degree in social work, she transitioned into computer programming and entered the insurance industry, starting at SA Eagle, which later became Zurich. Over time, Vanessa moved from programming to customer service, where she discovered her passion for supporting insurance applications. “What I enjoy most about my job is its dynamic nature,” she says. “Every day presents new challenges. I love problem-solving, whether it’s dealing with diverse customers or supporting my team through complex issues.” Her experience in the insurance sector, combined with an MBA from Henley Business School, has equipped Vanessa with the skills to lead effectively and navigate industry complexities. This dedication comes with challenges. Vanessa often works long hours to ensure issues are resolved promptly. But she understands the importance of balance. “Eight o’clock is my cut-off,” she says. “That’s when I shut down and enjoy some me-time.” Outside of work, Vanessa is a proud mother and grandmother. Her daughter, born in 1990, has blessed her with a nearly two-year-old grandson. "Weekends are precious to me because that’s when I spend time with my family,” she shares. “One of my biggest regrets is not being there enough when my daughter was growing up. Now I get a do-over with my grandson, and I spend as much time with him as I can.” Vanessa’s advice to other working moms is simple: find balance and prioritize self-care. Vanessa also values SSP’s commitment to diversity and equitable treatment. “I have never encountered any hurdles related to gender discrimination at SSP,” she says. “The company values qualifications and capability above all else, and I am proud to work for a company that fosters an inclusive environment.” Vanessa’s journey reflects her strength and character.
