About us

SSEN Transmission plays a critical role in the transition to a low carbon future, developing, building, maintaining and operating a network for net zero. Vital to net zero ambitions it transports huge quantities of clean, green renewable power over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain. With the region home to some of the UK’s greatest resources of renewable power the business has a critical role to play in the transition to a low carbon future, connecting up more renewable energy and transporting it across the country. From the deep waters of the North Sea to high mountains of the Highlands, the power from onshore and offshore wind-farms, hydro power stations and other generation assets is moved across a vast network of underground and sub-sea cables, overhead-lines, wooden poles and steel towers to millions across the UK. This system supports both the UK and Scottish Governments' net zero emissions targets whilst meeting the needs and expectations of stakeholders. As the way we live our lives changes billions of pounds in investment will be required to meet energy demands now and in the future. Through a fair, balanced and considered investment programme SSEN Transmission is committed to improving network reliability and enabling the transition to net zero, at an affordable cost to consumers, whilst also providing a fair return to investors. https://linktr.ee/ssentransmission

Last month we took part in the Future Energy System Skills Summit in Glasgow. We were thrilled to be part of discussions that will help shape the future of the energy sector as we work toward a net zero future. This event, hosted by the University of Strathclyde, gathered key players in the industry to address one of our most pressing challenges—transforming the energy skills landscape to ensure we have the right talent for the jobs of tomorrow. With a powerful keynote from Prof Sir Jim McDonald, Principal of the University of Strathclyde calling for accelerated action, the summit emphasized the importance of collaboration across education, government, and industry. The event highlighted research, sponsored by SSE plc, SP Energy Networks (SPEN), and the National Energy System Operator (NESO), that focuses on the network skills needed in Scotland. Dave McKay, Director of Asset Management and Operations at SSEN Transmission , underscored our commitment, stating: "With the expansion of the network, we have the opportunity to show people that we are creating long-lasting high-quality jobs in their communities. SSE have committed to spend £11.2bn on networks for NZAP+ and we want to find the right skills to deliver this mission.” We look forward to continuing this critical work and playing our part in building a sustainable, skilled workforce for Scotland's energy future. 🔗 You can download the report via the link in the comments below⬇️ #NetZero #EnergySkills #FutureOfWork #GlasgowSummit

⚡️ We're pleased to announce that we've been awarded nearly £870k in funding to push forward two important projects – SYSMET and REVISE – as part of Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) programme!   💡 The projects will explore innovative tools in the Alpha phase to monitor system strength and improve the industry’s understanding of static line ratings to unlock additional network capacity.   👏 Having successfully completed the initial Discovery phase, we’re now moving into the six-month Alpha phase. This next step is all about establishing proof-of-concept through close collaboration with key partners across the energy sector. It’s an exciting opportunity to test innovative solutions that could drive real progress toward a low-carbon future.   ➡️ Read more about the funding: https://lnkd.in/eS35_xCK

⚡️ SSEN Transmission is extending the period for people in Lewis to provide feedback on the proposed new HVDC convertor station and AC substation on Arnish Moor, to 28 November.   🤝 The extension follows a pre-application consultation event held in Stornoway in September, and recognises the level of local interest and engagement in the proposals which are a key part of the proposed Western Isles HVDC link. 💡 A second event will take place in November where SSEN Transmission staff will again be on hand to share details of the proposed site location and layout, as well as visualisations and information about connections into the proposed site. We’ll share further details about the event in early November. 📣 In the meantime we invite anyone who hasn’t had the chance to submit their feedback on our proposals to do so, and contribute to this key part of the project development process. ➡️ To submit feedback and register for project updates, visit https://lnkd.in/eFXpQKVn

⚡️ Today, we officially opened our new offshore hub in Inverness, dedicated to delivering our ambitious Pathway to 2030 programme! The new space, with room for up to 100 people, will support teams working on major subsea projects like the Western Isles and Spittal-Peterhead HVDC links. 🤝 Highland Council Leader, Cllr Raymond Bremner, joined us to officially open the hub and unveil a commemorative plaque. We were also pleased to welcome key partners from across our supply chain to open the new space. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The new space will help bridge global supply chains with the Highlands, supporting energy security and local job creation. And, in a nod to the Highlands, we've named our meeting rooms after iconic bridges found in the region with Dornoch, Cromarty, Kylesku, and Ballachulish! 👏 This is an exciting step forward for us at SSEN Transmission as we continue to deliver the critical infrastructure needed to support Scotland and the UK's net-zero goals! ➡️ Read all about the new office opening: https://lnkd.in/ejzhEAs6
