About us
SSEN Transmission plays a critical role in the transition to a low carbon future, developing, building, maintaining and operating a network for net zero. Vital to net zero ambitions it transports huge quantities of clean, green renewable power over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain. With the region home to some of the UK’s greatest resources of renewable power the business has a critical role to play in the transition to a low carbon future, connecting up more renewable energy and transporting it across the country. From the deep waters of the North Sea to high mountains of the Highlands, the power from onshore and offshore wind-farms, hydro power stations and other generation assets is moved across a vast network of underground and sub-sea cables, overhead-lines, wooden poles and steel towers to millions across the UK. This system supports both the UK and Scottish Governments' net zero emissions targets whilst meeting the needs and expectations of stakeholders. As the way we live our lives changes billions of pounds in investment will be required to meet energy demands now and in the future. Through a fair, balanced and considered investment programme SSEN Transmission is committed to improving network reliability and enabling the transition to net zero, at an affordable cost to consumers, whilst also providing a fair return to investors. https://linktr.ee/ssentransmission

Now that’s what we call horsepower! 🐴⚡️ 🐴 Our contractor Future Forestry brought in some extra-special help from a four-legged friend to help remove hand-felled trees from a sensitive area of woodland near Brechin. 🌳 Some of the trees were scheduled for felling work to help improve network resilience in the area, however we were keen to limit any impacts from heavy machinery and preserve the surrounding woodland as much as possible. The team at Future Forestry came up with a sustainable solution – meet Eli and his expert equine managers! 🌲 To help minimise disturbance in the precious woodland, manual tree cutting took place after which Eli and the expert equine team were brought in to sensitively extract timber from amongst the broadleaf trees that were being retained – a process known as horse logging. ⚡️ It’s the first time we’ve had actual horsepower in use on the network since it was modernised – thanks to the team at Future Forestry for delivering a sustainable solution. Neigh a bad job, we think! ➡️ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eje6Eueq 📸 Craig Stephen Angela Smith Jane Craigie Marketing Ltd #HorsePower #SustainableSolutions #HorseLogging

It's #GreenCareersWeek and #LivingWageWeek 👩💼👨🏭👷♀️🧑🔧 A green career can be any job, role or occupation that contributes to preserving or restoring the environment and our planet. It can be any industry, not just those seen as ‘green.’ Green skills are abilities, attributes, values, attitudes, knowledge, and technical skills needed to adapt services, processes and procedures to support climate change. At SSE we're investing billions into creating a homegrown energy system that is cheaper, cleaner and more secure. We're recruiting thousands of roles to help support the clean energy transition. Looking after our colleagues and supply chain during the clean energy transition isn't just a nice-to-have for us at SSE, it is essential. This is why we've been a #LivingWage employer for 11 years and are also a #LivingHours and #LivingPension employer. We're recruiting thousands of green living wage, pension and hours jobs that will help drive the energy transition. 👉 We're inviting people in Lewis to a consultation event taking place at the Cabarfeidh Hotel in Stornoway from 3-7pm on Thursday November 14, to discuss our proposals for a new #HVDC convertor station and #AC substation at Arnish Moor. 👷 Staff will be on hand to answer questions and share details of the proposed site location and layout, and provide information about connections into the proposed site as well as visualisations. ⚡️ The proposed 400kV substation and converter station – known as the Lewis Hub – is an essential part of the proposed Western Isles HVDC link which will allow 1.8GW of new #renewableelectricity generation to connect to the electricity transmission network. ✅ It will play a critical role in improving network reliability and security of supply for homes and businesses across the Western Isles, delivering significant economic benefit through the local supply chain while supporting national #netzero and energy security ambitions. ➡️ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eJnRjrwS

📑 Following a thorough development and consultation process, we've submitted a planning application to Aberdeenshire Council for the 'Netherton Hub' - a strategic #ElectricityTransmission development located to the west of Peterhead that will play a key role in transforming the electricity network in the north of Scotland in support of national #EnergySecurity and #NetZero targets. If approved, the 'Netherton Hub' - named to reflect the area's farming history - will comprise: ⚡️ A 400kV substation to support offshore and onshore electricity generation ⚡️ A 132kV substation to support further future generation and storage connections from third party developers ⚡️ The Spittal to Peterhead High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) converter station ⚡️ The Eastern Green Link 3 HVDC converter station ⚡️ A further transmission hall, with capacity for more infrastructure to future proof the growing network ⚡️ A spares warehouse and operations base ➡️ Find out more: https://lnkd.in/ekq63v2E

👷 We have a big job ahead of us to deliver our ambitious £20Bn Pathway to 2030 programme of #transmission network upgrades – and we need to make sure we have the right people and the right skills across our teams for us to do so. ⚡️ With this in mind, this week Allie Walker,FCIPD our HR Director hosted senior HR representatives from across our supply chain partners at our head office in Perth to see how we can all work together to support our people as we deliver a network for #netzero. 🤝 With our fantastic partners from BAM UK & Ireland, Murphy, Balfour Beatty plc and Wood we discussed how we can work together to promote early careers opportunities to support the next generation of apprentices, trainees and graduates across all of our teams, as well as sharing ideas on how to upscale our workforce in the years ahead in local areas right across the country. Thanks to our supply chain partners for joining us! ➡️ Interested in seeing how you can #JoinOurTeam and help us #PowerChange?
