Squire & Partners – The Future ‘Things won are done. Joy’s soul lies in the doing.’ Shakespeare An architectural practice is never done. It is a constantly evolving organism that takes many forms and shapes over time. It is in the running of a practice, getting to work with incredibly talented and wonderful people and delivering the next great building where the joy is found. May it never be said we are done. Since the passing of Michael Squire in 2023, we have taken the opportunity to examine the structure, leadership, future direction and operational effectiveness of the practice. We have undertaken both internal and external reviews to rigorously test our aspirations. We are now able to start implementing a new plan for the business that will build upon the last 47 years and lead the practice into the future. In the first of several steps, we are delighted to announce the expansion of the partnership with 7 new partners. These are all people who have worked at Squire & Partners for many years and are a huge part of who we are, what we do and the fantastic projects we have created. By adding them to our partnership we bring diversity of thought and skills into the top of the business. They will increasingly take control of projects from Henry, Tim and Murray, whilst also leading specific areas of the practice to ensure continued focus and development. Henry, Tim and Murray are in no way stepping back, but will continue to provide strategic design and leadership whilst looking to expand the practice further to a wider global audience. New Partners: Bettina Brehler, Maria Cheung, Clelia Filipe, Olga Gomez Fernandez, Alessandro Mangiavacchi, Michael Poots, Sophie Steed.              They are an extremely talented group who will support us in leading projects and the practice into the future, whilst providing the best possible service, from the first line of the pen to the last line of mastic. In addition to this we are reinforcing that we are a partnership, not a company, and are delighted to announce that our Associate Directors are becoming Associate Partners. Along with being the beating heart of the practice they will also take an active role in shaping the practice both internally and externally with the new partners. We are excited to continue our journey to becoming a world-leading architecture practice that delivers high quality, beautiful buildings that create maximum value for our clients and enjoyment for the future occupiers. We hope you will join us in congratulating them and share our excitement for the times ahead. In the doing is where everything is won! To view the full list of promotions, follow the link: https://lnkd.in/e7wriMsz

In the latest issue of Mix Interiors, Harry McKinley covers the recently completed “new landmark” art’otel Hoxton, highlighting the importance of the building’s timeless relationship to the neighbourhood. Partner Murray Levinson spoke with Mix to explain how the building’s cylindrical form and external detail complement and acknowledge the technological history of the area, in particular the nearby Silicon Roundabout’s role in the development of the computer. McKinley adds that the building’s architectural scale has allowed for the introduction of “an impressive cluster of flexible, interconnected public and community amenities” at ground and lower ground level, including a “dramatic” main entrance, generous bar and restaurant, “plush” spa and five-metre-high gallery space and screening room. On the upper levels above the 357 guest rooms, this amenity offer is completed by an elevated dining room, conference facilities and agile co-working spaces. As part of the Building Focus features series for Building Magazine, Thomas Lane examines the sensitive refurbishment of Space House, which “celebrates the building’s groundbreaking architectural qualities.” Following a tour of the building with Partner Tim Gledstone and Founder & CEO of Seaforth Tyler Goodwin, Lane delves into the restoration process which has reimagined the existing buildings whilst creating new, complementary additions to accommodate modern working environments. These interventions, coupled with a respect for Richard Seifert’s original design intent, contribute to the building achieving a BREEAM Outstanding rating, which will be the first awarded to a listed building in London. Director Michael Poots spoke to journalist Emma J Page for the November issue of The English Home about creating maximum impact when designing small spaces. Explaining how innovative solutions – such as pocket doors, joinery and ironmongery – can be implemented to capitalise on smaller proportions, Michael comments on how compactness shouldn’t be seen as a design challenge, but rather as an opportunity to enhance and enrich enjoyment of a room. “Space House’s refit is a bellwether for the modernist architecture of business.” Following a building tour by partner Tim Gledstone and client Tyler Goodwin, journalist Helen Barrett has covered the sensitive refurbishment of “retro-cool” Grade-II listed Space House London in The Telegraph, as an example of a workspace building “making office life fashionable again.” Our ambitious retrofit for Seaforth has embraced “modernism as an advantage, not a hindrance” by successfully retaining, exposing and celebrating Richard Seifert’s original vision for the brutalist tower and adjacent block, located in the heart of Covent Garden. The implementation of new, complementary additions – including an extension, all-electric heating and cooling, and state-of-the-art amenity spaces – not only accommodates modern working environments but promotes sustainable design, as one of the first listed office buildings with a BREEAM Outstanding design. As part of our ongoing educational outreach, Partner Tim Gledstone showed a group of art and design students from Epsom College around our offices at The Department Store last week. The students spent time with several of our departments in order to understand the various routes into architecture and the varied career options that exist within the design industry. Commenting on the importance of art & design learning in schools, Tim said: “the creative industries are a huge contributor to our national economy. As designers, we have a duty to educate students about the breadth of opportunities our sector holds. From modelmaking and digital design to PR and marketing, The Department Store is a showcase of the different pathways available to the next generation who may be unsure about how to apply their artistic talents and interests to a future career.” Read more on Epsom College's website: https://lnkd.in/eAkqrVat

To celebrate the publication of his upcoming book on the postwar story of London’s South Bank, Dominic Bradbury interviewed Partner Tim Gledstone for the Financial Times about our work as masterplanner of the mixed-use Southbank Place development. Speaking to Bradbury, Tim explains that the ambitious project, which introduces much needed homes and workspace provision to the area “builds upon the regeneration that the Festival of Britain ignited.” He adds that this strategic location with fewer site constraints “allows for the emergence of a new London vernacular with international ambition.” Bradbury comments that the creation of the new towers next to the Shell Centre at Southbank Place not only “helps to tie the neighbourhood together” but also “brings a new sense of character to the South Bank’s previously unloved hinterland.” Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/ed9gm6-W Photo by David Christian.
