29th August 2023 marked a new service at Spires. We opened our drop-in for homeless & disadvantaged clients in the West Norwood community at St Luke’s Church. One year on, we have supported 212 people in this community who were in desperate need. Whether with housing, benefits or health, Spires staff have helped all these people with the objective to reduce the number of people experiencing homelessness in this community. “It is such a joy and a privilege to host Spires at St Luke's West Norwood. There are so many people that need so much love and support, and Spires has a very experienced team available to offer direction, advocacy, wisdom and kindness. Our partnership with Spires means that we can stay focused on the mission of the church, while providing a space for specialist community services that help the most isolated and vulnerable in our parish.” St Luke’s Church. Great experience for Spires staff to attend the West Norwood Feast on Sunday 4th August. We spoke to the local community to spread the word about the work Spires is doing at St Luke’s Church helping those in the community who are in need. We are just shy off a year since we opened our service in West Norwood and have so far helped over 210 different people who were either homeless or at risk of homelessness, across 107 sessions in total. The West Norwood Feast is a community feast on the first Sunday of every month, taking place outside St Luke’s Church. We will have a stall there in the months of September, November & December for the rest of the year. Volunteers needed! We're looking for volunteers towards our breakfast service every Monday at St Leonard's Church, Streatham. Volunteering your time to support Spires will hugely help the lives of people experiencing homelessness. “I love volunteering at Spires. It's an incredibly fulfilling experience. I feel so valued and supported as a volunteer and feel like it's fantastic working with this team". Roles may vary but tasks will typically be a mixture of serving food & drinks to clients and assisting our team.
