Section 21 evictions, also known as "no-fault" evictions, are a major cause of homelessness - at least 26,000 households have been evicted through the law since 2019, according to Shelter. Section 21 allows landlords to evict tenants with just two months’ notice without giving them a reason. This leaves thousands of people who are renting in the lurch, forever unstable and unable to find a place to build a life. The insecurity can place a huge burden on people affecting their health and wellbeing. Some renters are afraid to speak out about issues with their housing for fear of being evicted. In tomorrow's #KingsSpeech, the Government must stick to its manifesto pledge to "immediately" ban so-called no-fault evictions and deliver further improvements for renters through the Renters Reform Bill. Together, let's make renting safer, fairer and more secure for families across the country. Everyone deserves a place to call home. #HousingCrisis #HomelessnessAwareness #Renting #EvictionBan

Spikes on the floor. Bars across benches. Railings. Fences under stairs. Sloped seating. CCTV cameras. Hostile architecture can be subtle and difficult to spot, but once you understand its purpose and look around, you can see it everywhere in our cities. It's unwelcoming and unhelpful - but it doesn't have to be that way. Read about why #HostileArchitecture is so prevalent across our towns and cities and what we can do about it. 👇 #SocialKind #ManKind #HomelessnessExplained #RoughSleeping

GOOD NEWS! The Renters Rights Bill is here already - introduced into Parliament this week with its ‘first reading. After years of inaction, this is exciting news for millions of renters across the country with promises to reform renting for tenants including ending #Section21 #NoFault Evictions - a key cause of #homelessness. We've got that #FridayFeeling! We'll be breaking down the details of the bill over the coming days - but most importantly, we know this just the start, with a long way to go before the bill becomes law. We'll be working with other organisations across housing and homelessness to show the Government what needs to change to bring a fairer system for renters across the country. #HomelessnessAwareness #HousingCrisis #Renting #RentersRights #FeelGoodFriday

As we wrap up the summer, we wanted to share photos from trips that residents of one of our Islington hostels have enjoyed over the past few months. From visits to the Royal Albert Hall and Kew Gardens to a day out at London Zoo, these outings are key for the Londoners we support. They helped our clients build social connections, boost their confidence, and, most importantly, have fun! 🎉 A huge thank you to all the staff who made it possible! 🙌 #LondonCharity #Inclusion #Isolation #DayTrip

Last week, our CEO, Liz Rutherfoord, wrote an Op-Ed in the Big Issue alongside Nahar Choudhury, CEO of Solace Women's Aid. Our message: Women experiencing homelessness are being let down by a system designed predominantly for men. They discuss how our women's #roughsleeping census is working to change that and our calls to the Government to ensure women who are #sleepingrough get the support they need so that we can end homelessness for good. Every night, hundreds of Londoners are forced to sleep on our city's streets, in libraries, on buses, and on park benches. It's a desperate situation - with no sign of slowing down. Every day, we work to get Londoners out of #homelessness into somewhere safe, cosy, and warm—a place to build a life, a place to call home. #APlaceToCallHome #HommelessnessAwareness #HomelessCharity #

Driven by a record number of families living in short-term housing, councils in England spent a record £1 billion on temporary accommodation for homeless families last year. 💰 This comes after new figures showed that 117,450 households were living in temporary accommodation as of March 2024, a 12% increase from the previous year. 📈 These numbers highlight the chronic shortage of social housing and the urgent need for the Labour Government to fulfil its promise of delivering the largest increase in social and affordable housebuilding in a generation and improving the private renting system. 🏠 #Renting #HousingCrisis #HomelessnessAwareness #Homeless

On 14 June 2017, the residents of #GrenfellTower found out their homes were anything but safe. 72 people lost their lives in this awful tragedy, leaving family, friends and a whole community bereaved. Today, with the conclusion to the #Grenfell inquiry, we pause to remember them... The inquiry found all 72 deaths in the fire were "avoidable" and people living there were "badly failed" by those responsible for their safety and that of the tower. It is a damning verdict, yet thousands of residential buildings across the country still have dangerous cladding on them. An apology means nothing without action to make these buildings safe, and implementation of all of the recommendations in the report to ensure a tragedy like this never happens again. Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. #72Lives #GrenfellTowerFire #Inquiry #Justice #JusticeForGrenfell
