In Anchorage, Alaska, a dedicated team of women is on a mission to protect the endangered Cook Inlet beluga whales—an iconic population often called “canaries of the sea” for their vocalizations. From shore-based surveys to cutting-edge research, these passionate conservationists, supported by NOAA Fisheries, are working tirelessly to ensure the survival of these majestic creatures. Despite facing challenges posed by climate change, and underwater noise pollution, the Cook Inlet belugas remain a vital part of Alaska's ecosystem. With innovative monitoring programs, community outreach, and collaborative efforts, these women are not just safeguarding a species—they’re shaping a legacy. Last year, as we set out a path to define our strategy for the coming years, we reached out to you—our partners, supporters and climate warriors—for your insights through consultations and a survey. Through this research, the most pressing challenge within the gender and climate nexus emerged: 👉 The strikingly low representation of women in climate negotiations and policy-making worldwide—a critical gap that #SHEChangesClimate is determined to address. 👈 It's quite clear to us that there's still much work to be done to turn these insights into meaningful action but the wheels are in motion and we’re most grateful to all those who offered their wisdom and we are excited to move forward.

🎄 It’s Day 2 of the 12 Days of Impact - and Elvie, the AG Impact Elf, is back! Elvie’s been learning all about SHE Changes Climate and the power of women’s leadership in the fight against climate change. Climate action isn’t gender-neutral—we need diverse voices at the table to create real change! 👩🔬🌍 Did you know? Women are 14 times more likely to be affected by climate-related disasters due to social and economic inequalities, yet they remain underrepresented in global climate leadership. SHE Changes Climate is working to change that by ensuring women have an equal voice around the leadership table. Women leading the charge for climate action! Elvie’s busy making room at the table! 💪 #12DaysofImpact #ImpactElf #AGPoweredbyPurpose

As 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on a year of challenges, opportunities, and progress in championing climate justice through a gendered lens. Women’s leadership has proven essential in driving bold solutions to the climate crisis, yet the fight for representation, funding, and equity continues. In 2025, #SHEChangesClimate we will work intensively to fill these gaps and amplify women’s voices, secure funding for gender-responsive climate solutions, and dismantle systemic barriers that hinder progress. The stakes are high, and the time to act is now! 🔗 Our Year-End Reflections: https://lnkd.in/dergBxVF

From crafting parametric heat insurance to becoming solar technicians, women across India are at the forefront of tackling climate challenges. In Maharashtra, they’re innovating climate-resilient farming; in Gujarat, transitioning from saltpan labour to renewable energy roles. 🍃 But it’s not just about adapting—it’s about leading. Initiatives like Self Employed Women's Association's Swachh Akash and Project Surya highlight the transformative potential of empowering women, despite systemic barriers like land rights, limited training, and gender-blind policies. The message is clear: #ClimateJustice needs #GenderJustice. #FairTransitionForAll #JustTransition #SHEChangesClimate Green Economy Coalition

"A just transition should take economic and social justice concerns into account. But there has been a lack of serious engagement with the gendered dimensions of justice in policies being developed for the just transition. This raises the risk that transition policies sustain or worsen gender (and other) inequalities. This is particularly true in the Global South, which is facing the greatest threats due to climate change and transition impacts." 📰 https://lnkd.in/d2D7JAwY 💡 This paper argues that ensuring a transition that delivers gender justice is both critical and urgent: https://lnkd.in/d-JE_RrS #FairTransitionForAll
