It's almost time for the #DisabilityPower100... Mark your calendars for 20 November as we're bringing together the most inspiring changemakers in the disability community for an unforgettable event at The Drum, Wembley - hosted by none other than the incredible Fats Timbo! We will also be announcing details of our live stream and how to sign up very soon. #DemandTheChange Video description: a series of upbeat video shots from the Disability Power 100 event in 2023. The video starts with some shots of the Drum building in Wembley - an impressive circular building with lots of wooden features. We see a monitor screen displaying "Welcome to the Disability Power 100 2023" and see lots of shots of people networking, chatting and socialising together. People are dressed in glitz and glam, and can be seen with drinks and canapes. Some people are chatting in front of a red screen, with the words "Demand the change" repeated all over the screen. Near the end of the video, text appears on screen. It reads "Shaw Trust, Disability Power 100. The Drum, Wembley 20/11/24"

“Shaw Trust changed my life,” said Christopher, sharing a moving story about overcoming anxiety with the support of Shaw Trust and NHS. Yesterday, Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting visited North Central London to learn more about our WorkWell service. WorkWell understands that employment is part of the recovery process and bridges the gap between health care, benefits and finding work. It ensures that anybody with health conditions has ‘one front door’ to access the support they need to find and keep the right job. WorkWell participant Christopher, who was included in the BBC London News episode last evening, admitted he would be lost without the support he has received from Shaw Trust. David Harper, Acting Managing Director Community, Health and Wellbeing; Anthony Dandrea, Head of IPS and Integrated Services; Mica Lawrence, Work and Health Coach and Abegail Joseph-Spencer, Employment Specialist represented Shaw Trust to explain more about WorkWell and the benefits already being seen by our front line colleagues delivering the service. Shaw Trust is delivering the WorkWell programme in West London and is pleased to have started delivery in North Central London at the beginning of October alongside the North Central London - Integrated Care System and NHS. Find out more about the Ministers’ visit from the BBC London news clip below. *Video Description: This video shows government officials speaking with participants of the WorkWell programme inside an office building. The officials are discussing WorkWell's goals and how it can help people find and keep jobs. Participants are seen listening attentively and asking questions.*

"Lots of conversations around inclusivity and disability are around 'what do we need to do to help?', and actually it's about reframing it 'what do you get as an organisation by hiring a disabled person?'" Hiring inclusively isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s a strategic advantage. Disabled talent brings fresh ideas, adaptability, and resilience that every team can benefit from. Let’s recognise the value of an inclusive workplace: https://lnkd.in/gaSSBaPA #DisabilityPower100 #DP100 #Disability #Inclusion #Diversity #Accessibility #Employment #Employers #InclusiveHiring #GoodWork #GoodWorkPlaces

🌹 Honouring Remembrance Sunday & Armistice Day 🌹 This weekend, we come together to remember those who served and sacrificed. At 11am on Remembrance Sunday, and again on Monday, Armistice Day, we’ll pause for a two-minute silence. This moment marks the exact time - 11 am on 11 November 1918 - when the First World War ended, bringing peace after immense loss. Let’s join together to remember the service and sacrifice of all those who have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. #LestWeForget #RemembranceSunday #ArmisticeDay #ShawTrustRemembers

"They fill in blanks, when they really don't have to." Yasmin Earl, Shaw Trust's Disability Confident Specialist, caught up with Max Fisher, a multi-award winning disability advocate and scientist, ahead of the upcoming Disability Power 100 on November 20 to talk about inclusivity in the workplace. Assumptions, particularly within the disabled community, can be incredibly damaging. Assumptions of what people can and can't do make it really difficult to not only offer the right level of support in the hiring process, and subsequently, the workplace, but also, results in fewer people with disabilities in the workplace. Despite one in four working people in the UK identifying as disabled, it's twice as likely they will be out of work. To overcome this, we must ask the right questions, remove assumptions and bias, and offer inclusive adjustments to ensure the workplace is accessible to all. Stay tuned for more snippets from Yasmin and Max. You can also find many more informative videos on Max's YouTube, Ouch Mouse: www.youtube.com/@OuchMouse And if you want to watch the free Disability Power 100 live stream, you can register here: https://lnkd.in/eQ-44m6n #DisabilityPower100 #DP100 #GoodWorkPlaces #Accessibility #Disability #Inclusion #Diversity Video description: A Microsoft Teams recording of Yasmin and Max talking, split down the middle (top and bottom). "We overcomplicate a lot of things. Say I've got a friend, and they've a new partner, and I invite them round for dinner, it's not difficult to say 'is there anything you don't eat?' - if you flip that into recruitment, 'is there anything I can do to make this easier for you?' As the Disability Power 100 approaches, Ross Hovey, Accessibility Lead at Lloyds Bank and Michelle Jackson, Head of Diversity and Inclusion, caught up to have a chat about how employers can make the workplace more diverse, inclusive, and accessible. Sometimes, it's as simple as asking a question. Ross was recognised for his work by the DP100 in 2023, and we're excited to have him attending again this year.
