Last year during IE Week, a group of like minded women (and men) came together in the SGMF office to discuss #sustainability, #diversity, #inclusion and other relevant matters in the #maritime industry, during the first #WiGS gathering. We are excited to announce that this year during #IEweek, we will do this again 🥳 Kindly hosted by MOL, we are inviting Women In Green Shipping to join us for a dialogue “inspiration for a sustainable and inclusive maritime industry” Places are limited, so make sure to register in time via the below link and take this opportunity to connect, recognise the outstanding contributions of women in green shipping, and work together towards a sustainable and inclusive future for the maritime industry. https://lnkd.in/g-UUvNct

🚢 The year has only just begun and 2025 already promises to be a landmark year for the maritime industry 🚢 2025 will be a pivotal year for maritime #decarbonisation and #regulations, with a number of highlights on the agenda for this year: 💡 FuelEU Maritime On January 1st, the #FuelEU #Maritime regulation came into force, marking a historic step within the Fit for 55 package aimed at reducing emissions in Europe. This regulation will enforce stricter #greenhouse gas intensity limits for #shipping #fuels and promote the adoption of #cleaner alternatives. This year we will see the first effects become visible: ❓ Will it change trading routes or encourage the use of newer, more efficient vessels? ❓ Will older, less efficient ships be driven out of European waters? ❓ Most importantly, will these changes lead to a measurable reduction in emissions? The economic and commercial impacts will be significant, but the ultimate goal remains clear: to achieve meaningful climate action. 💡 IMO’s Global Role in 2025 The #IMO Marine Environmental Protection Committee (#MEPC) 83 in April will be a key moment. Member states must agree on midterm measures to support global decarbonisation. This includes: 👉 Technical measures, such as #carbon intensity reduction trajectory to 2050 and emission limits. 👉 Economic measures, where discussions about a potential global carbon #levy are gaining traction. The path to consensus won’t be easy and the final decision will shape the future of global shipping and its alignment with climate targets. 💡 Safe Use of Low-Carbon Fuels; the practical side Regulation alone isn’t enough; practical implementation is critical. The IMO is advancing the work on International Gas Fueled ships (#IGF) code and guidelines to ensure the safe use of alternative fuels onboard ships: 👉 Methane/LNG, IGF code have been in place since 2016. 👉 Methanol guidelines were published in 2020. 👉 Ammonia guidelines were adopted in late 2024. 👉 Hydrogen guidelines are on track for September 2025, thanks to the hard work of the CCC Sub-Committee. These developments are crucial in supporting the industry’s transition to low and zero-carbon fuels safely and effectively. The outcomes of these regulatory and technical discussions will depend on #collaboration between #policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators. Together, we can chart a course towards a sustainable future for global shipping, where the input from all stakeholders is equally important. #SGMF and its #members play a vital role in these discussions and we encourage everyone to stay engaged and drive change together.

Recently we had the pleasure of interviewing one of the Women in Green Shipping (#WiGS) about her journey in sustainable shipping. Maartje Wibrew-Forster has a wealth of experience and is a true #ambassador for SGMF and WiGS. Read all about her story here: https://lnkd.in/eUDmfPx6 And with the recent words of the #IMO secretary general in mind, that he would not engage or participate in a panel where there is no female representation, we would like to remind you that #WiGS also has its own speaker bank, consisting of women with experience in sustainable and safe shipping. Maartje is part of that as well of course. The speaker bank be found on our portal: https://sgmf.info/wigs/ #connect #inspire #support #diversity #inclusion #maritime #sustainability #safety #collaboration #femalespeakers #knowledge #equality #inclusion

SGMF is one of those leading organisations that embraces #diversity, #equality and #inclusivity. For that reason, 6 years ago, Women in Green Shipping (#WiGS) was founded. WiGS works closely together with women and men in the industry to support and connect women in the maritime industry. There is still a lot to #improve, but to improve anything, you need to measure first. To get a better view on the state of the industry, the International Maritime Organization, together with WISTA International has released the second global Women in Maritime Survey. This Survey is run every three years to obtain baseline data on the number of women in maritime and oceans fields and the positions they occupy. The deadline to complete the Women in Maritime Survey is January 31st 2025, so we kindly remind our SGMF members and other fellow organisations to complete the survey (if not done yet). This Survey supports implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) by having comparable data that will assist in creating programmes and proposing policies that will increase the participation of women in maritime. This helps in promoting a more diverse and inclusive environment in the maritime sector, which is perfectly aligned with the WiGS objectives. A report containing the aggregated numbers will be available to all interested parties via the IMO and WISTA International websites in May 2025. The survey can be found here: https://lnkd.in/db-EtmuA More information can also be found on the IMO website: https://lnkd.in/ef3-f5hJ By the way; what do you think of our new WiGS logo? Looking forward to hear your thoughts 🤩 #CallToAction #WiGS #WomenInMaritime #Sustainability #Diversity #FutureProof #Survey #IMO #WISTA #Deadline

“There is no about us without us” This is a phrase that appeared on social media a while ago and it is very relevant when it comes to #safety and #sustainability. SGMF is a membership based organisation and what we do, is with and on behalf of our members. Are you a member of SGMF and do you want to actively contribute to enabling the safe and sustainable use of #LNG, #Methanol, #Ammonia and #Hydrogen as a marine fuel? Then applying for one of the vacancies in our Technical and Environmental Committee might be a good first step. With less than 4 weeks till the deadline of the application period, there is no time to lose. Via the below link you can get more information about the process and the requirements, so visit the portal and apply if you want to be part of a clear future. SGMF reposted this
During the year, the #SGMF team mostly works remote to be as #efficient and #sustainable as possible. To ensure we stay connected and aligned with our strategy and members needs, we do meet face 2 face on a regular base. 2024 was a very busy year for SGMF, with the new #branding, 3 #publications, a white paper, a LCA, many events and a new team member! To close off and recap 2024, the team travelled to The Netherlands and spent some time together in the south of the country at Claudia Beumer's place. It was not the usual meeting room or maritime city where we normally meet, but there is no better way to close off a year like this, with some #qualitytime and a warm, freshly baked #oliebol. #teambuilding #multicultural #diversity #TheFutureIsClear #traditions #Face2Face #futurefuels #sustainability #decarbonisation
