One of Hull’s most iconic business names has received national certification for its workplace travel plan, which encourages and supports its workforce to walk, cycle and use public transport for their daily commute. The Sewell Group has received a Very Good Travel Plan award from Modeshift STARS and was presented with its certificate by Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways at Hull City Council. The Sewell Group’s achievements and standout travel plan initiatives included: 🚲 teaming up with the Hull Thursday Road Club to record a short film, highlighting the benefits of cycling, for Cycle to Work Day 🚴 improving existing onsite cycle parking facilities by erecting a secure cycle shelter made from sustainable materials 🚮 organising and delivering lunchtime litter pick walks within the community, collecting a total of 32kg worth of litter 🚘 introducing a car share scheme to help match staff living within the same postcode, including floor vinyls and coloured, cardboard cars placed on desks to act as ice breakers 🤝 car share competitions 🚵 promotion of the council-funded ‘Rusty Riders’ adult cycle training programme. It's been a really busy few months for our teams, who've been out and about at conferences and events across the country. Healthcare Estates 2024 - 8th and 9th October - Manchester Central was attended by numerous team members from Citycare and Shared Agenda, Community Ventures and Parallel Data Intelligence, with several team members being asked to speak, which we're incredibly proud of. Our team at Sewell Construction recently completed the remodelling of classrooms at Dorchester Primary School to accommodate an additional 20 places for SEND pupils. The classrooms have been in full use since September. Headteacher, Stuart Mills talks about the difference they're making: “The new SEND classrooms are fantastic. The children love them and so do the staff. Having a SEND Unit within our school not only benefits children with SEND, but also the rest of the school too, as we can ensure that every child is supported to flourish." Developing new primary care facilities can be complex, and lack of funding can leave medical practices housed in property that’s not fit for purpose. Public-private partnerships can be a way for GP practices to get the modern premises they deserve. Middleton and Dinsdale Medical Practice had been housed in a ‘temporary’ building for seven years. Having explored various funding sources to develop a new building, they were finally able to construct a bespoke new medical centre after partnering with us.
