Proud to stand with every child.

About us

Save the Children exists to help every child reach their full potential. In more than 100 countries including the UK, we help children stay safe, healthy and keep learning. We lead the way on tackling big problems like pneumonia, hunger and protecting children in war, while making sure each child’s unique needs are cared for. We find new ways to reach children who need us most, no matter where they’re growing up. For a century, we’ve stood up for children and made sure their voices are heard. We wrote the treaty that sets out the rights of every child, and we’ve been upholding them every day since. We know we can’t do this alone. Together with children, supporters and partners, we work to help every child become who they want to be.

🚨 CALL ON THE UK GOVERNMENT TO ACT NOW In Gaza, children are being bombed, starved, and subjected to a living hell. And still it goes on. The new UK government has said it's committed to upholding international law - but to do so means taking urgent action to address the hellish situation for children in the occupied Palestinian territory. Join us in calling on Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Foreign Secretary David Lammy to: 🔴 Suspend all arms exports and licenses to the Government of Israel. 🔴 Do everything in their power to end the siege on Gaza. 🔴 Hold all perpetrators of grave violations against children to account. 🔴 Call for the release of all Palestinian children arbitrarily detained. 🔴 Demand an end to the Israeli occupation. An immediate, definitive ceasefire is the only way to end the death and destruction in Gaza, allow for full humanitarian access, and ensure the safe release of hostages. We’re devastated that 12 lives have been lost after a boat sank in the English Channel, including six children and a pregnant woman. These tragedies are happening far too often, and the new Labour government have the power to end this by opening up safe and legal routes for those fleeing persecution. The English Channel must not become a graveyard for children. Unless the new government create safe and legal routes, we will continue to see families and children risking their lives.

The UK Government has announced a partial suspension of arms sales to Israel – but that's not the full story. Parts for the F-35 jet have been made exempt from this suspension, despite their use by Israeli forces to bomb and kill civilians in Gaza. The UK's legal commitments to uphold international humanitarian law are crystal clear – and only a full suspension of arms sales will meet them. Over 14,000 children have been killed. Homes, schools and hospitals destroyed. @keirstarmer @david.lammy, now is not the time for half measures. The UK must suspend ALL arms to the Government of Israel. Failure to do so means the UK is currently complicit in the killing of children in Gaza. #Gaza #StopTheWarOnChildren Voiced by David Harewood OBE Gaza footage: Salah Alhaw/Alef Multimedia/Oxfam

As children across the county go back to school, it’s the UK government’s first week back too, and we’ve made Keir Starmer a to-do list. Top priority: reduce child poverty now to create lasting change. Only by breaking down barriers can we help children thrive in the UK. We've always fought for children's rights, like when our campaign for better nutrition led to the 1944 Education Act and free school milk/meals. Governments have listened before and should do so again for a better future. Here's hoping for a positive report card this term!

Interim CEO at Save the Children UK

I’m proud to be the interim CEO at Save the Children UK and I’m so lucky to have the opportunity to do what I do. Education has been the key to unlocking these opportunities and choices for me. But today 72 million children around the world are missing out on school because of war, conflict or crisis. And 100% of children in Gaza have lost access to education. That’s why we’re standing up for all children’s right to education. Because every child should be able to go to a safe school and have the choice to pursue the things they love. Find out how you can help at Save the Children UK Share this message if you agree, and I'd love to hear what education has given you in the comments below. #SaveTheChildren #LastingChange

Children in Gaza deserve to be going #BackToSchool too. Meet Shadi* and Basil* – they're eight-year-old twins who live with their parents and their younger brother in a tent in #Gaza. They were forced from their homes when the war started and have been displaced four times since then. Their dad, Mazen*, worries about the children’s loss of education. They tell him they miss their friends and teachers, and the routine of school. He worries that they are forgetting everything they have learnt and that it will be years before they are back in normal classrooms, given so many schools have been destroyed in the war. Mazen says the war has also impacted on his sons’ mental health and that they lose control easily over little things, they have lost their appetite for food and their motivation to learn. Shadi and Basil attend a Save the Children learning and recreational space in the shelter where they live. Staff in the space aim to provide children with a sense of stability, as well as organising fun activities. Our team will gradually introduce learning activities once children feel more comfortable and safe. Given the trauma children in Gaza have experienced, we know it’s important to start with helping children to feel safe, build their resilience, and support them to express themselves again. A record 766 million children – one-third of the global child population – were exposed to extreme heatwaves from July 2023 to June 2024. Children are experiencing more intense and frequent heatwaves because of climate crisis, putting their health and overall wellbeing at significant risk. World leaders must be willing to take bold action to protect children from heatwaves. #ClimateCrisis
