We work to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. Across all of our work, we pursue several core values: accountability, ambition, collaboration, creativity and integrity.

  • As wars and violence continues to escalate across the world, children may have questions or concerns. At Save the Children we're dedicated to supporting children's mental wellbeing and empowering them and their parents to having these conversations. Starting these conversations with your children can be hard, but you are not alone. Our child psychologists have put together a useful guide that can help you get started! By fostering open communications and providing reassurance, you can help your child feel more secure during these challenging times. Save and share with your family, friends and colleagues ❤️

  • This horrific past year has shattered childhoods in #Gaza. Every day, children face violence, fear, loss, displacement, hunger, and devastation. They’re paying the highest price for a war they play no part in. These things should not be normalised for any children, anywhere. While they’ve found ways to endure this year of relentless war, it cannot be their new normal. To truly protect children’s lives, we need a #CeasefireNOW. ⚠1 million people have been displaced in Lebanon⚠ This includes 350,000 children who have fled their homes as a result of the increasing violence. Many of those fleeing are already vulnerable, including women, children and refugee populations who have already been displaced for months. Families are struggling to find safety in shelters across the country and numbers are expected to swell following new relocation orders issued by Israeli forces on Tuesday. 135,000 people, including over 60,000 children, fled into Syria from Lebanon in the past week, many suffering dehydration and exhaustion. Some walked for hours under airstrike threats only to reach a still dangerous border and a country where services have near collapsed after 14 years of conflict. This is a humanitarian crisis. We urgently call for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further suffering in the region. More info ➡ https://lnkd.in/e6kDeSxw #Lebanon #conflict

  • In recent days, airstrikes across multiple densely populated areas in Lebanon have left children and families killed, injured and fleeing for their lives⚠ 500,000 people (10% of the population) have been uprooted from their homes since October 2023, but 400,000 of these were displaced in the last week alone due to the latest hostilities. Thousands of families are taking refuge in shelters, but children are still scared and overwhelmed. They are telling us that every loud sound makes them jump now. Whenever they hear a door slam or something drop, they get scared and think it’s another sonic boom. It feels like danger is everywhere, and they can never be safe💔 Violence is costing human lives – and as always, children are bearing the greatest brunt. There must be an immediate de-escalation to protect children. All civilians, and civilian infrastructure, must be spared from the violence. We stand ready to scale up our response to the escalating situation. But we need help to do this. Donate today to our Children's Emergency Fund 👉 https://lnkd.in/ewA7Tj96

  • In the past week, children in Lebanon have had their lives turned upside down. Families are desperately trying to find safety with whatever they can carry, children crying, terrified by the sound of drones and fighter jets above. ❌100 children have been killed since October 2023, 50 in the last week alone. ❌345,000 children near the southern border of Lebanon are at risk of being impacted by the increasing violence ❌1.5 million children are out of school We are responding to ongoing needs, particularly for those who have been displaced by the escalation of violence in southern Lebanon. Since October 2023, we’ve supported 60,000 people including 25,000 children with:  ➡ Recreational activities in shelters to help children process traumatic experiences  ➡Cash to buy essentials ➡Food and hygiene kits  ➡Learning & mental health support  ➡Access to clean water and washing facilities    Any further escalation of hostilities will mean an unacceptable loss of human life. As always, children will bear the brunt of conflict. We call on all parties to de-escalate hostilities immediately. Read below to find out more about what's happening in Lebanon right now 👇

  • Children’s rights are human rights❤️ Children have the right to survive, learn, and be protected, to have their voices taken into account, and to influence the laws and policies which affect their lives and futures🌟 But right now, escalating war and violence, and the devastating impact of the climate crisis mean, life for children is extremely tough. Children’s rights are being eroded and neglected. Inequality is growing. ❌1 in 6 children are growing up in conflict ❌400 million children of primary school age cannot read or write ❌12 million girls marry before the age of 18 every year ❌1 million child deaths each year are linked to hunger ❌ 1 billion children are at extreme risk because of the climate crisis This is a CHILD RIGHTS CRISIS. At Save the Children, standing up for children’s rights is our history, present, and future. We’ve been helping children realise their rights for 100 years, and we won't stop now. • Revealed: 66% of children interviewed with access to the internet interact with people they don't know daily ⚠ In the aftermath of the pandemic, incidents of online grooming and child sexual and financial exploitation are at an all-time high, with an 82% rise in online grooming crimes against children reported in that period “People should be kept safe when interacting with strangers online, because one message, video or post can have a great impact on a child’s mind. As you know many young children are getting assaulted online and many of the children can’t stand up for themselves, so here I am standing up for all those kids who got assaulted.” – 12 year old girl from urban Australia While children have come up with numerous ways to protect themselves, they are calling for widespread, accessible and targeted online safety education for themselves and their caregivers. By listening carefully to about 600 children, our new study, carried in partnership with the Young and Resilient Research Centre at Western Sydney University and with funding from Tech Coalition Safe Online Research Fund, found that children want and need better online protection. Children are calling on adults to: ❌ Create easier ways to report online abuse  💡 Upskill in digital literacy, especially parents and caregivers 📙 Provide widespread online safety education  👨💻 Harness technological innovations like AI 🤝 For governments and tech companies to work together to implement measures to protect children online "We need to foster a digital environment that is not only safe but also enriching, allowing children to explore, learn, and grow without fear. Policymakers need to listen to the voices and experiences of children when developing policies that protect them.” Steve Miller, Save the Children’s Global Director of Child Protection. We are calling on leaders gathering at the UN General Assembly this week and in November at the first-ever Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, to listen to children and act upon these findings. • New Report Alert! 🚨 The Unprotected: Analysis of funding for child protection in humanitarian action in 2023 report reveals critical gaps in funding for child protection in humanitarian crises. In 2023, child protection received only 2.5% of total humanitarian funding⚠ It's crucial we close the gap and #FundTheFuture. We must prioritise and protect the most vulnerable children in crises. • It has been 100 years since it was accepted that children hold their own rights ❤️ We’re proud that our founder, Eglantyne Jebb, was the first person to articulate this. She shared her vision with the world when she drafted the historic Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which was endorsed by world leaders in 1924. Despite progress over the past 100 years, today, children’s rights are being eroded and neglected. Children worldwide are facing hunger, poverty, inequality, and discrimination. But children are not giving up. They are fighting to make the world a fairer and safer place for generations to come. “We dream of a world where our rights are not just words on paper but a lived reality. We’re talking about our right to a healthy environment, education, and a chance to thrive.”  Xia, 14, the Philippines We have been helping children realise their rights for over 100 years. We will not stop until they are all respected, supported, and protected worldwide💪 Learn more about how we continue to fight for children rights➡ https://lnkd.in/esxSwbMH #100YearsChildRights #ChildRights
