SARAID is commencing its Annual Operational Readiness Assessment, a comprehensive 4-day exercise designed to evaluate and enhance our response capabilities.  This exercise is crucial for ensuring our team remains prepared and agile, with a focus on deploying swiftly and efficiently during emergencies.  #OpsAssessment 

SARAID is excited to share that Ed Watson, our dedicated USAR Engineer, has successfully completed the INSARAG Urban Search and Rescue Coordination course in Dombóvár, Hungary, from August 26-30, 2024.    The course covered extensive topics from humanitarian coordination structures to hands-on management of disaster response mechanisms like RDC, UCC, and SCC, integrating scenario-based exercises to refine our operational capabilities. This advanced training ensures that SARAID remains at the forefront of international rescue operations.

This World Humanitarian Day, we confront a stark reality: 2023 was the deadliest year ever recorded for humanitarian workers, with 2024 poised to follow a similar path. In our role in urban search and rescue, these statistics are not just numbers— they represent real risks to teams on the ground. At SARAID, we advocate for the enforcement of international laws designed to protect aid workers and the communities they help. On this day, four years ago, we reflect on the devastating 2020 Beirut explosion that profoundly affected the city and its people. SARAID was present, working alongside our partners @fire - International Disaster Response to perform critical structural assessments, helping many safely return to their homes. This July, SARAID USAR Technician Trainee Matt Jennings joined K9 Search & Rescue NI in Bangor to participate in an intensive training program. Hosted by Lost & Missing Person Search (L&MPS) International Ltd, it covered a range of skills from emergency First Aid to advanced search techniques and multi-agency interoperability. Matt's takeaway: "The course was engaging and valuable, enhancing our effectiveness and understanding across teams." We are pleased to announce SARAID’s new partnership with Jangala, a UK not-for-profit organization that provides internet access to those in need. Jangala has generously supplied us with their “Big Box” Wi-Fi hub, enabling us to create a network for up to 100 users in disaster situations, and the “Get Box,” designed for smaller, domestic environments. These devices will significantly enhance our disaster response efforts by improving communication and coordination in the field. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration with Jangala.
