Last weekend our aerial surveillance aircraft was deployed for a long-range SAR tasking to provide top-cover for an Irish Coast Guard SAR helicopter, operated by CHC Ireland. This type of mission is only possible with fast and effective liaison between multiple organisations. This included HM Coastguard's own UK Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, the Irish Coast Guard's Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Dublin, and MRSC in Valentia that assumed overall co-ordination, using in this instance the Waterford based Irish Coast Guard Helicopter R117, and NATS. Our East Midlands Airport-based service is operational 24/7. We are on standby to support our national and regional partners in the search and rescue community when needed. Some of our team joined Dave Connor in mastering inclement weather avoidance yesterday and spent the afternoon connecting like minded people and inspiring the next generation of aviation talent while atop the O2 Dome.... A big thank you and well done to Charlie Woodward and Rachel Brookes for making the journey, representing the company and still managing to get back in time for duties today!

On behalf of The Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers and alongside Master Coachmaker Steve Fitz-Gerald, it was a pleasure to host our group of guests for a not-so-typical Thursday afternoon climbing the O2 Dome. You can always rely on the great British weather to deliver its usual unpredictability, but miraculously, despite the strong winds, we avoided the rain and were able to enjoy excellent views of the City. Thank you to everyone who joined me and my RVL Aviation colleagues; Including students from ASI (Newark) and the CharterSync team. Over the weekend our team completed a full scale maritime exercise and the deployment of our aerial dispersant spray assets alongside our partner, West Atlantic UK Ltd. The exercise involved installation and operation of an Oil Dispersant Spray Kit installed into a Boeing 737 which then conducted routine training spray operations using water to simulate dispersant application, along with our B200 King Air providing spotter operations. The goals of the exercise were to: - Rehearse the installation of the kit along with the recurrent and new training of installation engineers: increasing resilience and optimising operational delivery - Revalidate line pilot training: this is crucial to ensure safe and effective operations when carrying out Aerial Dispersant Application. - Carry out routine Spray System Operator (SSO) training: as part of the flight crew it is essential our SSOs have experience in operating the kit in the aircraft. A key component of the operation involved the simultaneous deployment of our spotter aircraft which conducted the spray missions alongside the Boeing 737, focusing on communication and coordination and ensuring a safe and effective overall operation. This comprehensive training forms part of our robust training programme which ensures all members of the team, whether operational, administrative or technical maintain the high levels of competence required to carry out their duties. Exercises like this are crucial to ensure we are prepared and in a state of operational readiness for a live callout should it ever be required by our customer the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. #aviation #maritime #oilspillresponse #aerospace

RVL's Jackie Welburn and Kevin R. have successfully completed their Aviation Action Run the Runways challenge during the month of May. The challenge involved running the length of 31 runways, one for each day of the month, and between them they covered over 160 miles. Jackie said ‘I really enjoyed the challenge and getting outside daily for exercise. Over half of my runs were buggy adventure runs which benefited both me and my son greatly.’ Kevin added that ‘the challenge was great for my mental health and I improved my weekly parkrun time!’ Run the Runways raises money for Aviation Action, who are developing an app to provide mental health wellbeing and support to people in the aviation industry. The RVL team were delighted to host students from ASI (Newark) earlier this week, further strengthening the relationship between the college and our business.    The visiting students who are studying a mixture of Engineering and Aviation Operations qualifications were able to participate in a range of practical activities in our Engineering, Maritime and Operations departments.   The structure of the day was closely built by the team at RVL with input from James Guthrie and Ross Tarnowski at ASI (Newark) . The sessions provided invaluable insights to the students into the business. Jackie Welburn, Head of HR and ASI Industry Board member said ‘It was a great day, thoroughly enjoyed by all involved. The students particularly enjoyed the practical elements and hearing the training and development journeys of our pilot cadets and engineering trainees’.    We are looking forward to attending and celebrating the official opening of the new ASI (Newark) facility next month. #STEMcareers #aviation #engineering #operations #inspiration

🤹♂️ 🤹♀️ Join our team as an Operations Officer 🤹♂️ 🤹♀️ Our Operations Control Centre (OCC) is at the heart of RVL Aviation, and we are now recruiting for an Operations Officer to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Ground Operations Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in coordinating and overseeing our flying programme. But this isn't your typical 9-to-5 desk job - you'll be at the forefront of the day-to-day operation from flight planning to ramp movements, you'll be the go-to person for keeping things running smoothly. Every day will bring new adventures and opportunities to showcase your skills. If you're looking for an opportunity within a dynamic business and to join a team where your skills and contributions truly matter, then look no further. You'll be responsible for the dispatch of aircraft within the RVL Aviation fleet, pre-flight briefing of flight crew, including the identification of hazards to flight safety and commercial risks. You'll undertake flight watch; ensuring the operation is safe, expeditious and cost effective, and flight planning, including the generation, submission, and management of operational flight plans. You'll liaise with local ATC facilities, mitigating delays to filed flight plans, support with aircrew roster management, and the allocation and monitoring of duties to prescribed standards and Flight Time Limitations. You'll practively monitor weather and NOTAMs, coordinate ground handling, fuel, permits, hotel and transport, while you're capitalising on commercial opportunities and charter requests. You'll collate pre and post flight documentation, and facilitate aircraft ramp movements and fuelling. We're looking for someone who's educated to GCSE level, computer literate and comfortable working with the Microsoft Office suite. You'll have excellent customer service skills, and be able to communicate clearly and concisely, especially when under pressure. You'll need a full UK driving licence and the right to live and work in the UK. And while it's not essential, if you have an understanding of Flight Time Limitations, flight planning and operational control systems, or have experience of working within the aviation industry, we'd love to hear from you. This is a full-time, permanent role, working 12 hour shifts on a rolling roster, covering 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
