As is the case in most industries currently, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are being used by insurance companies to provide accurate, efficient risk assessments and better inform appropriate premiums - particularly for standard consumer policies. Even for some claims, AI-driven technology is great for streamlining the process. For example, if you bump your car and need to claim on a personal policy, some platforms will allow you to upload a picture, provide some contextual information on the type of event that has occurred, and it will follow through with a pay-out according to your policy terms. However, for other policies - for example, some bespoke corporate policies, which are based on more complex risks and tailored to your company's needs - the technology isn't yet able to navigate through some of the technical jargon. A client recently came to us for some advice for a family member, who'd been involved in an insurance battle over a faulty garden wall. Lucy, who lives in Nottinghamshire, had been woken one night by the sound of a garden wall crashing through her conservatory window. The damage could have cost Lucy up to £30k to fix and her insurer had initially declined to contribute to these costs. Following a letter written by local MP Michael Payne, and some advice from our Claims Director Steven Wright, who was able to review and dispute the insurer's final report, Lucy won her battle with the insurer 👏 Steve said: "In cases like this, it is rare that an insurer gets it wrong. However, if you do believe you have been dealt with unfairly by your policy provider, it's always good to have the backing of a knowledgeable insurance broker." 🚨 A reminder to say that BT Redcare is closing, which may affect your business. Effective from 1 August 2025 (or earlier if your contract expires before then), BT Redcare alarm-signalling provider will cease to operate. If you are a business who wishes to maintain a remote monitoring capability, in line with any policy conditions, you will need to switch to a new provider. If you alter or amend the signalling of your existing intruder alarm or fire protection systems, solely due to the closure of BT Redcare operations, we confirm that this will not be considered a breach of any condition in their Allianz Policy Wording provided that any replacement product is of an equivalent performance standard (or better). This approach applies to all customers who hold Allianz Commercial policies. Whilst BT Redcare signalling is commonly associated with intruder alarm systems, customers will also need to think about other systems they may have which rely on it for the remote signalling of events. This could include fire alarms, fridge temperature alarms, sprinkler or other fire protection systems, water leak detection equipment, and hold-up systems.
