  • We were pleased to have taken part in this Southwark Council survey as well as the recent joint report to #SaveCouncilHousing alongside a cross-party group of authorities collectively managing over 870,000 council homes across the country. 🏠    Read the joint report 👉 https://lnkd.in/eVstvE5H Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Cllr Anthony Okereke, said: “As one of the largest council landlords in England we want more of our residents to have access to safe and secure homes. "But to do that, like many councils up and down the country, we need long-term funding that matches the challenges we face so we can plan for the future.”     Cabinet Member for Housing Management, Neighbourhoods and Homelessness, Cllr Pat Slattery, said: “We want to provide our residents with the homes they need and deserve, and we need more investment to not only deliver new homes, but to improve the ones we already have. "Council homes are key to providing people with the safety and security that they need to live happy, healthy lives and we are committed to doing all we can to achieve that in Royal Greenwich.”

A survey of councils across the country, collectively managing over 870,000 council homes, found that two thirds of council housing budgets are on the brink of collapse – a risk of being unable to set a balanced budget by the next general election. We all want to build more homes, but years of financial strain and policy change has pushed England’s council housing into crisis. The survey found that 61% of councils have already cancelled, paused, or delayed council house building projects, and more than one third have cut back on repairs and maintenance of homes. As in our recent joint report, councils across the country are calling for the government’s upcoming housing strategy to #SaveCouncilHousing. We need to see: 1. A new, sustainable financial model for council housing 2. A Green & Decent Homes Programme 3. Sufficient funding for building new council homes Read more about the survey and our recommendations to government https://orlo.uk/oVpnd

  • Congratulations to Florence Kroll on her CBE. Florence Kroll, Royal Greenwich’s Director for Children’s Services, has been awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours 2025 for her remarkable services to education. Since joining Greenwich in 2016, Florence has led the way in delivering vital services for children, young people, and families, with Ofsted recognising the service as Outstanding earlier this year. She's involved in innovative projects to deal with some of the toughest issues facing young people and their families, such as teenage mental health and wellbeing, and looking for new ways to deal with domestic abuse, while championing inclusion and equity. In Florence’s own words: "The true honour is being part of a team so centred on improving the lives of children and helping them get the best start in life. There’s nothing I can think of more rewarding than that." Congratulations Florence on this recognition. 👑🎉
