About us

Think you know the Royal British Legion? Think again. You probably know us for our poppies and recognise our name but the day-to-day work we do to support the Armed Forces community might surprise you! We’re the country’s largest Armed Forces charity. We help serving and ex-serving personnel, and their families, live fulfilling lives through a wide range of support and services. We advocate and campaign to government on behalf of the Armed Forces community, as well as leading the nation in Remembrance to ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten. We’re here for those who’ve served to defend our nation, its democratic freedoms and our way of life. To put it plainly, we’ve always got their backs, whatever stage of life they’re at. Help shape our future It’s a really exciting time to join us and play a part in changing the lives of the people we support, and our future capacity and capability. Working at RBL means working with colleagues who are young at heart, keen to learn and eager to make change. Our team is massively committed to our mission and proud of what we achieve. We employ around 1,800 people across the country to campaign on behalf of the Armed Forces Community, deliver support services, lead Remembrance, raise funds to support our work and develop and run the organisation and our network of membership branches. From our major hub offices, we work collaboratively and have flexible/hybrid working practices in place. And with the latest technology colleagues can connect with one another, our members and beneficiaries, and come together around our common purpose and values.

Join us for the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance from the Royal Albert Hall on 9 November as we come together to commemorate our Armed Forces and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our way of life. Hosted by Adrian Lester, we’ll be joined by currently serving personnel and veterans from the British Army, Royal Air Force (RAF) and Royal Navy as we pay tribute all those who selflessly put the safety and protection of others before themselves. Plus there will be performances from military bands such as The Bands of HM Royal Marines, and special guests including Sir Tom Jones, Alexandra Burke, Jake Isaac, Jack Savoretti, Samantha Banks and Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha. 📺 Watch on Saturday at 9pm on BBC One ▶️ Stream on BBC iPlayer anytime from 9pm on Saturday #Remembrance #FestivalOfRemembrance

We are so grateful to everyone who has supported the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, from our amazing Poppy Appeal collectors and volunteers to our corporate partners. This generosity helps to ensure that we can continue to support the Armed Forces Community. This year we were lucky enough to be invited to the offices of some of the companies supporting us this year, giving us the opportunity to bring the Poppy Appeal to thousands of desks across London. We receive incredible support from so many businesses, but we’d like to send a special thanks to Amazon, Aviva, Anglo American, BAE Systems, Bank of America Securities, BlackRock, BNP Paribas, CME Group, Coutts, Investec, Lloyds Banking Group, Morgan Stanley, NatWest Group, Schroders, TP ICAP and UBS. If you would like to find out more about how your business could support the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal, please contact the Corporate Partnerships team at [email protected].

All of them wear smart clothes and paper poppies and pins on their coats. They all laugh and smile at the camera.

Thank you to Tesco for supporting the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. Stu Paterson is a serving member of the Royal Navy and is one of our amazing volunteers who will be collecting Poppy Appeal donations at his local Tesco store in Helston. “I’ve been volunteering for the past six years and have seen how Tesco staff interact and support our Poppy Appeal collection in store,” says Stu. “I have served in the Royal Navy for over 37 years now and I’m still going strong! “I think the town is proud of its service personnel and it’s great to see members of the community wear their poppy with pride.” Collectors will be in Tesco stores across the UK, and customers can also round up their shop to the nearest £1 at the self-service tills from 4 to 10 November.

We are proud to have partnered with Scholastic UK to publish this special book for young readers based on Tomas Robert’s poem Alive With Poppies. In his moving poem, first performed at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance in 2021, Tomos Roberts - who performs as Tomfoolery - explains the history and the importance of the poppy symbol. Brought to life through beautiful illustrations by Sharon Rentta, it encourages readers to pause and reflect on the importance and meaning of the poppy and reminds us of those who have served and sacrificed for the freedoms that we know today. 50p from each copy sold goes to support the Royal British Legion.

Meet Richard, a Poppy Appeal Organiser in Frome, Somerset and an Armed Forces veteran who helps collect donations in his local Asda. “I have been collecting for the Poppy Appeal for five years, and as a veteran myself I want to help raise money to help those who have served and their families," he says. "Our local Asda is a very strong supporter of the Poppy Appeal; their staff are wonderful and so helpful. “Their customers are so very generous. Just over 25% of all the money raised in our area last year came from our local Asda store. “As a member of the Armed Forces community I’m grateful that people are prepared to show they remember, and that they support those who have served by wearing a poppy.” A huge thank you to Asda for their continued support of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, and ensuring the sacrifices of our Armed Forces are never forgotten.

Thanks to Ross Kemp for kicking London Poppy Day off from the Tower of London this morning, where he took part in a military guard physical training session before joining serving personnel and Poppy Appeal collectors in a bid to raise £1 million in one day. Across London, thousands of British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force (RAF) personnel have joined Poppy Appeal collectors to hand out poppies and collect donations at Network Rail and Transport for London stations, in offices and on the streets of the Capital. If you’re out and about in London today, please do say hello to our fantastic collectors, and show your support for the Armed Forces community by wearing your poppy.

“I was at my wits end - I didn’t want to be here.” After the death of his wife from cancer, John left his job in the Army to support his young children. Previously a field-based engineer, he found it difficult adjusting to life as a single parent living on benefits. The mental health and wellbeing needs of the Armed Forces community and their families are complex. Your poppy shows you care and helps the Royal British Legion provide practical support for ex-service personnel whenever they need us. This year, support the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal and help us continue our vital work supporting veterans like John.

“It makes me proud standing in the Guildhall on Remembrance Sunday, seeing everyone wearing a poppy, making sure those who have served are never forgotten.” Louise has been a dedicated volunteer for the Poppy Appeal since 2002, stepping into the role of Poppy Appeal Organiser in Portsmouth a few years later. Since then, she has collected donations at her local Morrisons. Morrisons has long been a supporter of the Poppy Appeal, welcoming Louise and other volunteers into their stores. "They're always eager to provide us with a prime location in their stores, and the staff are incredibly supportive of the volunteers." As a member of the Armed Forces community, Louise has firsthand experience of the impact these funds can have. Her husband, a veteran of the Falklands conflict, was diagnosed with PTSD in 2005, and RBL has played a crucial role in securing his pensions, benefits, and helping them secure their home. “Because we know what the Legion can do and how they help, this is why we keep collecting.” A huge thank you to Morrisons for their continued support of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. Be sure to visit your local store to make a donation and pick up your poppy.
