RTS North West held a dazzling Awards last Friday at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester – their biggest ceremony to date! Expertly hosted by Radio 1’s Katie Thistleton and CBBC’s Rhys Stephenson, the Awards saw a couple of big winners. Channel 4’s Merseyside mystery series The Gathering and BBC Morning Live both took home three trophies. We enjoyed seeing Rav Wilding and Michelle Ackerley showing theirs off in the Morning Live studio on Monday! Stand-out moments include Jack P. Shepherd presenting his Coronation Street mum Helen Worth with the Judges’ Award, just weeks after she filmed her final part. Legendary broadcaster Lucy Meacock received a standing ovation and The Tony Wilson Award for Exceptional Contribution to the Industry, having spent many years sharing a studio with Wilson himself. Special mention to Danny Beard for closing the ceremony with a performance worthy of another Drag Race win, before Kimberly Wyatt DJ’d the night away. Last Thursday, RTS Northern Ireland hosted a blockbuster Programme Awards at the Titanic museum in Belfast, with Vogue Williams presenting a stunning ceremony that went a long way towards recognising another brilliant year of Northern Irish television. The big winners were The Woman in the Wall and Blue Lights, which won 3 and 2 awards a piece; the former’s co-stars Daryl McCormack and Ruth Wilson both taking home Best Actors for their roles in the mesmerising Magdalene laundry drama. The Brian Waddell Award for Outstanding Contribution went to legendary broadcaster Pamela Ballantine, who paid tribute to Waddell himself, having got her start at UTV while he was Director of Programmes, 40 years ago. And the Centre also presented its first ever Hidden Hero Award to Gerard Stratton, for his vital work as Director of the disabled-led production company in Belfast, Triplevision Productions Limited. Now over to RTS North West, who are hosting their Awards tomorrow at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester. If you’re from the region and fancy celebrating some outstanding local production, there’s still time to get tickets https://lnkd.in/emRbvDCa

“The beginners and winners dinner.” What makes the Patrons’ Dinner such a special night in the RTS calendar, beyond giving us the chance to award our prestigious Fellowships, is that we also get to welcome our new Bursary scholars while thanking our Patrons for their continued support. It’s this blend of talent and experience that inspired Tobyn Andreae, Head of Communications for our Royal Patron, His Majesty the King, to brand the occasion as TV’s “beginners and winners dinner”. It was wonderful to hear speeches from scholars Kwadwo Bonna Addo and Jess Kelly, and to see so many scholars networking with leading figures in the industry and their peers, making key contacts for their future careers in television. We’d also like to thank our Bursary Scheme Ambassador AJ Odudu, who rushed over from the Big Brother house to meet our scholars in person! #RTSBursaries #television #bursaryscheme
