About us
The Royal Television Society is Britain’s leading forum for television and related media. Membership is open to everyone with an interest in the medium. The RTS was granted its Royal title in 1966 and HRH The Prince of Wales became Patron of the Society in 1997. The RTS brings together people to exchange ideas, debate and explore key issues. The RTS Awards are an internationally recognised hallmark for quality and originality. For more than 90 years, the RTS has provided the UK’s main platform for debate about the future of television. Its lectures, events and publications make a substantial contribution to raising standards and developing practice. The RTS organises dinners with influential speakers, lectures, monthly sessions on current issues, and the world famous biennial Cambridge Convention sets the agenda for the future. Television, the leading UK monthly on television issues and broadcasting policy, is distributed free to members. Separate RTS Awards events cover Programme Making, Television Journalism, Craft & Design and Students. Many of the Society’s dinners and conventions are oversubscribed. Patron and individual membership entitles members to priority applications and advanced booking. There are 15 centres based across the UK and Ireland. Each Centre provides a mix of programme, technical, and craft events. The Society is an educational charity, embracing all aspects of television, including the creative community, broadcasting, equipment manufacture, professional consultancy, journalism, design, research and development, cable, satellite, video and interactivity. Thank you to our RTS London Convention 2024 Chair Anna Mallett, Co-CEO of Netflix Ted Sarandos and all of our incredible speakers for making yesterday's Convention so special. Netflix were our Principal Sponsor for this year’s Convention, titled The Next Episode: Keeping Our Creative Edge, and together we explored how the UK can retain its creative brilliance. We heard from our PSB leaders, industry luminaries and top journalists, as they dove into the theme in sessions ranging from how we value a creative company to what makes a TV hit like Clarkson’s Farm and Fool Me Once. Our new Secretary of State for Department for Culture, Media and Sport Lisa Nandy set out the government's priorities for the industry in her keynote address, and we even saw Richard Osman and Marina Hyde rounded up the day in style with an exclusive episode of The Rest is Entertainment. A special thank you to Accenture for providing this year's Convention app. Stay tuned for more updates from the day. What were your highlights? #RTSConvention #Netflix #TedSarandos
