Our Managing Director, Neil Brooks, recently discussed the role of BESS in the UK's Energy Landscape moving forward after our sister business YLEM Energy, among a number of other businesses, received a Capacity Market Notice (CMN) from the National Energy System Operator (NESO) on 14 October. In the article, Neil emphasises the critical role of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for grid stability and emergency responses. He highlights BESS's ability to rapidly respond in crises, enhance grid resilience, and support black-start capabilities during blackouts. However, Neil Brooks calls for urgent reforms, noting that lengthy grid connection delays and unimplemented NESO strategies hinder BESS deployment. Streamlining these processes and integrating BESS more strategically could strengthen the UK's energy resilience and ensure future reliability. Read the full article below.

⚡🔋 Our team had a busy September ⚡🔋 During September our expert in-house team submitted six planning applications for a further 315MW of battery energy storage projects across the UK. The six sites are located in North Yorkshire, Devon, Derbyshire, Bedfordshire, Glamorgan and Gloucestershire. The largest of the submitted proposals, in Camblesforth, Selby, North Yorkshire, will provide 200MWh once complete, enough to power 200,000 homes. The site is strategically placed close to the grid connection point near Drax Power Station on land which is naturally screened from view. It will provide a 13% habitat gain, 21% hedgerow gain, and a 70% watercourse gain once complete. Our Managing Director, Neil Brooks voiced his delight at another successful month stating: “I’m proud to see another productive month from our team, this continued growth is testament to the skills and experience we’ve assembled across our business. Our development activities are unparalleled in the sector and will be fundamental to achieving our goal of establishing Root-Power as one of the largest owner-operators of energy storage systems in the UK." #EnergyStorage #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #Sustainability #BESS

We're excited to share that construction is underway at our 11MW/22MWh BESS project in Coryton. The site will go live in Q1 2025 and has been designed with a 2-hour storage duration, enough to power around 22,000 homes. Our Managing Director, Neil Brooks has shared his views below: “We are making excellent progress at our Coryton project; however, the hard work doesn’t stop here. The southeast of England is a key area of focus for us with multiple projects with planning submitted and awaiting planning consent. Following the announcement earlier this month that our 12MW/48MWh project in Caterham Surrey has received planning permission, we look forward to growing our portfolio in this region over the coming months. We have plenty more BESS projects in the pipeline and an expert management team that will help continue this momentum.” Read the full details on the Solar Power Portal UK website here: https://lnkd.in/eyKVyDUF The image is a 3D render of how the BESS site will look.

⚡🔋 Planning Consent Secured ⚡🔋 We are thrilled to announce that we have officially secured planning consent for a 12MW/48MWh battery storage site in Caterham, Surrey. This is another significant step forward in our mission to become one of the largest owner-operators of energy storage systems in the UK. The site, adjacent to Caterham Bypass, will add a further 12MW to our growing portfolio when it goes live in 2025 and has been designed with a 4-hour storage duration, enough to power around 24,000 homes which is equivalent to the entire population of Caterham. Neil Brooks, Managing Director at Root-Power said: “We’re thrilled to have received the planning consent for our new site in Caterham, Surrey. Because of the project’s unique combination of planning constraints, it has been a challenging project to secure planning consent for and we are pleased we’ve been able to secure this consent via delegated decision, without the need for appeal. I’m delighted with the outcome and impressed with the team’s efforts over the last few months. This project is further evidence of Root-Power’s ability to secure planning permission for renewables projects in the most challenging of environments." 👉 Read the full article below in Solar Power Portal UK #EnergyStorage #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #Sustainability #BESS
