Creating Careers in Transport & Driving Britain Forward

About us

Road to Logistics is a national training organisation, with programmes to encourage new talent into the transport and logistics industry from sections of society where individuals need help and support to regain self confidence and independence. The programme will enable companies to reduce the cost of recruiting new talent into their organisations and in turn will help address the increasing skills shortage. Road to Logistics provide pre-employment training which is fully funded for the trainees and free to employers. We also offer Apprenticeships, as members of the Register of Approved Training Providers. Road to Logistics was founded through a close collaboration between Bob Harbey, Executive Director of Microlise, and Richard Burnett, Chief Executive of the Road Haulage Association.

I had a lovely afternoon recording a podcast with host Bonnie Cliff and David Ashford FCILT of KBC, talking all things HGV, with an emphasis on new drivers and the challenges the industry faces in recruiting them. Apologies for getting rather passionate and talking a lot! My Mum still tells me of the time she asked me to be quiet (about age 3) and I responded "But Mummy, I like talking!" Why change the habit of a lifetime?! In all seriousness, it was a fantastic conversation and I'm looking forward to the episode being aired in the not-too-distant future 😀 #roadtologistics #drivershortage #talentshortage #podcast #thelogisticspodcast #diversityandinclusion

A huge congratulations to our Lewis who passed his 3b today with flying colours! Lewis is our latest pass from our Liverpool programmes and has completed a 10 week long programme which includes a suite of additional modules, over and above the standard driver training, to ensure our graduates are risk aware, risk averse and work-ready. To date over 50 employers have taken advantage of this scheme, and as we have trained almost 500 people, with over 88% in permanent employment, we are proving that the Road to Logistics way really works. If your an employer looking for drivers, we are a national, multi award winning not-for-profit, and you can benefit from this free initiative simply by getting in touch with me. #roadtologistics #drivertraining #hgv #roadhaulage #logistics

Well 2024 has been a magnificent year for Road to Logistics. We have now trained almost 500 vulnerable and marginalised people of whom a whopping 88% are now in permanent employment as HGV drivers. We entered 3 awards, won 2 of them and got Highly Commended in the 3rd, and i am so proud of our small but mighty team and all of our graduates who prove thinking differently works. A huge thank you to all our training partners Jamie Lowe 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Iain Johnstone, DipPFS BSc(Hons) Robert Hagan and our practical training partners who share our vision and passion for providing people with the tools for a better future. We are also eternally grateful to all of our funding partners, charity supporters, and employers without whom what we do would be meaningless. Far too many to tag you all in but you know who you are and I'm so thankful for your input. Hopefully 2025 will bring more growth, more success and more people moving into gainful employment in logistics. Happy New Year everyone. May 2025 bring all my network good health and happiness ❤️ Jim French MBE Joanne Feist Susan Russell MBA David Hinde #happynewyear #roadtologistics #thinkdifferent

Back in Gateshead to run our two day Intro to Logistics module with our lovely Training Manager, David Hinde As well as information about the industry size and scope, the learners complete exercises including costing a trucks weekly profit and revenue per mile, routing, and learn all about drivers hours, weights and dimensions, abnormal loads, driving licences and plating and testing. We believe these additional modules over and above the standard vocational training, gives our learners confidence, an understanding of the profitability of hauliers and the part they play in that as drivers, and ultimately makes them risk averse and aware. We do have 3 employers who will have access to employing these individuals once they have their Cat C licence, but as this course is the first of many in the region, if you are a Cat C employer in the North East, who will have recruitment needs in the next 12 months, please do get in touch to understand more about the Road to Logistics scheme and how you can benefit from the FREE supply of qualified drivers we train. #roadtologistics #drivertraining #hgv #catc #Haulage #Newcastle #Gateshead #northeast

A huge well done to all the winners at the Supply Chain Excellence Awards last night. Whilst we didn't win our category, we did get a Highly Commended of which only 2 or 3 were given out in over 20 categories so we are over the moon to receive this. Well done to the entire team at Road to Logistics for all your hard work, passion, and general amazingness! #scea24 #awards #recognition #teamwork #roadtologistics

Another happy graduate doing well in his new role. He has been there for 3 months now but we keep in touch to make sure things are going well for 12 months once they start work. Dave is yet another example that all a lot of people need is the tools to change their own lives. This feedback means everything to us ❤️ #roadtologistics #hgv #drivertraining #thinkdifferent #support #mentorship #Haulage #roadhaulage
