🌍 Today is International Day of the Charity, an opportunity for us to raise awareness and encourage you kind people to get involved. 🙂 But today we need your help with another dilemma and it won't cost you a penny. ⭐ Our Community Fundraising page showcases all of the exciting ways you can raise money for our work in Malawi and whilst we would still love you to be inspired to get fundraising, some of our UK team are itching for their next challenge. 🚵 In 2017, our Founder, Geoff Furber MBE, and our Corporate Partnerships Manager, Nikki Khoram, cycled with four of our volunteers, Lands End to John O'Groats. It was an epic experience with many highs and lows (mainly due to the hills they had to climb). 😆 On a recent trip to Malawi the team all agreed that we need a new challenge. ⭐ Our teams love having volunteers as they can work together and come up with ideas to solve issues. This was the case for Loveness, our Disabilities and Rehabilitation Project Manager who has returning volunteer Hannah supporting her. 👏 Loveness said, "Two weeks ago Hannah and I made a back slab for Chisomo and parallel bars at his home. ⭐ It is important for our teams to build relationships with the community they are working with to ensure that they can support them, and Maston prides himself on doing just this. 🎶 He said, "I like to build positive relationships with the project stakeholders and community members. Today, it was amazing to hear the clubs singing Ripple Africa is for community." 👏 Kadula Club were harvesting for the sixth time. Maston continued, "The project is about planting (fruit trees) and caring for them to have better fruits in the community. It was amazing to see some children harvesting soursop (a local fruit) and enjoying it. 👏 We are ensuring that all of our Malawi based staff receive training on Safeguarding and Health and Safety. 🌍 Our teams based at Mwaya and Lowani were trained by Ripple Africa’s Human Resources Manager, Matilda Mwale and as part of the health and safety training, they learnt how they can protect themselves from any risks that they face as part of their work. 📃 In the Safeguarding course, Matilda stressed the importance of safeguarding the people with whom we work and how to report any safeguarding issues that they come across. ⭐ Mwaya Manager Morton Banda, thanked Ripple Africa on behalf of the trainees for the training. . . . #HR #training #safeguarding #healthandsafety #Malawi #RippleAfrica #Africa

⭐ Last week we welcomed a visit from the Secretary for Natural Resources and Climate Change, Dr Mkungula. Accompanied by the Director of Forestry, Mr Zulu, they visited various project sites in Mzimba North to meet farmers and learn firsthand about our tree planting project. 🌳 Our Country Director, Force Ngwira, said, "It was a great visit and Dr Mkungula said he had never seen a tree planting project with such a high tree survival rate." 👏 We are proud to be supporting communities not only with tree planting but with fuel-efficient cookstoves too. 📸 Right now this photo doesn't look like much in a few months this farmer, Moses, will have a field full of sweet potato vines. He is a new multiplication farmer. ⭐ Project Manager Francis said, "Moses has a dream of transforming his land into a thriving haven for orange-fleshed sweet potatoes. He is meticulously nurturing his first batch of vines, ensuring they receive just the right amount of water and sunlight." 🍠 Moses will harvest some sweet potatoes but mainly he will produce vines which will help more farmers be able to grow the improved varieties of orange-fleshed sweet potatoes. 👏 Francis continued, " This is a story of hard work and passion. 🌍 This is Fanwell out patrolling, and inset, his photograph holding big chambo fish which has been circulated around the world. I guess you could say he is the 'poster boy' of our Fish for Tomorrow project. 🎣 Fanwell was one of the first fishermen to have faith in the project and fully trust that by adapting the way he fished and protecting the fish breeding areas, fishing, and life, would change for the better. ⭐ Since 2011 when we fist started, Fanwell's life really has changed. 🌍 Meet Angel, a father of four living in Kavinkhama. He is only 32 years old but he is so aware of the challenging factors that affect life in Malawi. Although he hopes to benefit from the trees he has planted he ultimately wants them to help his children. 🌱 He said, "I aim to raise 2,500 seedings and plant these out in the rainy season. When I die, these trees will provide for my children.
