"I've always been curious to explore different parts of the business, and Rio Tinto offered me the perfect opportunity." Sankalp works in our Risk Management team in India, and has been with the company for 8 years. His work is focused on extracting actionable insights from raw data to inform risk-based business decisions. "I have been fortunate to have worked across different roles in the Health, Safety, Environment and Security area including procurement, information management, support services, reporting and analytics. Now I'm working with the Risk Area of Expertise to implement a program focused on simplifying the risk management process and uplifting the risk maturity across our business," Sankalp said. "Getting to learn and absorb the safety culture is one of the many reasons I love being at Rio Tinto. Safety is more than a priority for us. It’s a promise we make to ourselves, our teammates, and our loved ones every day." As a self-confessed techie with an inquisitive mindset, Sankalp actively contributes to projects that demand technical problem-solving. With safety being his core calling, he is also a voluntary member of the Emergency Response Team in India. #RioTintoIndia #FindingBetterWays

We check our equipment before every shift, but when was the last time you checked in with a colleague? While everything might seem fine on the surface, it's worth taking a closer look, because you might miss if someone is running on low. This World Mental Health Day, check in on those around you and ask how they're really doing. #WorldMentalHealthDay #WMHD2024

We’ve entered into an agreement to acquire Arcadium Lithium. Adding a world-class lithium business to our portfolio is part of our long-term strategy. Arcadium's current operations and projects span across Argentina, the US, China, Japan, Canada, the UK and Australia. What’s the ‘f’ word of innovation? To supply the materials the world needs, we have to solve big challenges and to do that we need to experiment. Some things will work, and some things won’t. It’s a matter of learning from those things that don’t work and ‘failing forward’ – something we look for in the startups we invest in and partner with. We asked Dr.Phil Budden from MIT Sloan School of Management what one forbidden word is when it comes to innovation. His answer…failure. “The problem with ‘failure’ is it can be a disincentive and stifle innovation. I prefer the word ‘experimentation’,” Phil said. #innovation #FiindingBetterWays

Our team, and their families, are at the heart of all of our operations. Our Family Days are a fun opportunity for relatives of our fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) team members to step into their loved one's boots and see how they live, what they eat, and the work they do when they are on-site. From tours to activities, it's always a great day to celebrate with our extended Rio Tinto family. Thanks to everyone who joins us on these meaningful days. 📸 from the Res Dev family day at our West Angelas site in Western Australia #FIFO #FamilyDay2024

“Mining is considered a noble profession in my home country of Ghana in West Africa," David, Principal Geotechnical Adviser at our Boron Operations in California, US, says. "Our chiefs and traditional rulers wear gold chains and rings during our festivals, and mining is a solid industry with good salaries. So I knew I wanted to become an engineer from a young age. We all have one goal – to keep the workforce safe. I don't want any injuries on my watch. Mining is a big hole in the ground, with high walls that we must keep stable. We monitor the high walls using instrumentation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so we can let the workforce know if anything is moving to avoid equipment damage, injuries, or worst of all, fatalities. Our approach has been successful and we haven’t had an incident in more than 11 years." David's work keeps our mines, people and surrounding communities safe during excavations and earthquakes. 👉 Read about the earthquake early-warning system he developed: https://lnkd.in/edXm2t74 #FindingBetterWays #Seismology #Engineering

Few materials are as important to our everyday lives as copper. It's tough but malleable, corrosion-resistant and recyclable. And did we mention copper is an excellent conductor of heat and transmitter of electricity? Have a look to see how copper is used. 🎞️👇 #FindingBetterWays #Copper
