The sustainability offering that Abby established in our Winchester office is now an integral part of what we offer. Not only that, but Abby is also a passionate advocate for the promotion and normalisation of women in leadership roles within the construction industry 💪🏼 Oh, and we won the coveted award for Overall Winner. It was a busy night! Huge congratulations to all of our extraordinary people and to all the other finalists who continue to drive innovation within our sector. We had a fantastic evening and look forward to seeing what this year brings. David Johnson #NBCA #NBCAwards #Winners #Consultancy #WomeninConstruction

Rosie Camburn, Civil and Structural Engineering Partner, hosted over 450 attendees last week for the Structural Engineers Declare Summit 2024 with Gary Elliott and Diego Padilla-Philipps. Buildings and construction account for nearly 40% of energy-related CO2 emissions whilst also having a significant impact on our natural habitats. For those of us in the construction industry, this issue demands a paradigm shift in our behaviour. The summit explored how the UK structural engineering community can drive bold climate action. Duncan Baker-Brown inspired some new ideas on sourcing materials and workforces locally, being creative with the reuse of existing building elements and the idea of ‘mine the anthroposphere, harvest the biosphere’. There were discussions on the use of materials such as concrete and secondary timber, as well as sand mining and the transportation of sand by air. It turns out ‘flying sand to the desert’ isn't just a metaphor. It was a brilliant event full of knowledge sharing and insightful discussions, cementing the need to design buildings, cities and infrastructures as indivisible components of a constantly self-sustaining system in balance with the natural world. ✅ Project completion: a college summer makeover We’ve recently completed the refurbishment of the College Green campus reception at City of Bristol College, bringing the space to life to provide a vibrant new student hub. The refurbishment included a refreshed entrance for the campus, brand new coffee shop and extensive changes to the external courtyard which now provides a great outdoor social space for students and staff to enjoy. Jason Headington MRICS, Project Manager, said: “This project is a testament to our ongoing successful collaboration with the City of Bristol College. Construction was only possible over the College summer holiday but thanks to the hard work of all involved we successfully delivered the project in time for the start of the new term.” Ridge provided Project Management, Cost Management, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Structural Engineering services.
