Fungi could have a key role to play in tackling the climate crisis, and investors are beginning to take note 🍄 This Nature Portfolio report shows that mycelium bioremediation – the use of #fungi to clean up pollution – is gaining market momentum. In May 2024, RE:TV contributor Mycocycle, Inc. secured $3.6 million USD to fund their innovative recycling process. They use lab-trained fungi to consume construction waste before transforming it into sustainable raw materials. It's great to see Mars embrace electrified transport. Their move to deploy 300 electric trucks by 2030 is already cutting the company’s freight emissions in Germany. This commitment is part of an overall push by Mars to decarbonise their full value chain by 2050. At COP28, we spoke with Chief Sustainability Officer Barry Parkin about their roadmap to success. A shift to globalised and industrial systems has transformed the industry – but this has come at a cost to ecosystems and human health. We must relearn how to farm in harmony with nature. To make meaningful change possible, Sustainable Food Trust are also seeking harmony in the way we measure success. Their Global Farm Metric is creating a common framework for on-farm sustainability and impact. It sounds counter-intuitive, but fires play a key role in creating resilient and healthy forests 🌳 Wildfires are a natural part of Yosemite National Park's ecosystem, but due to climate change, their frequency and intensity has become devastating. As Garrett Dickman explains, a return to traditional methods can help forge a new future for this awe-inspiring landscape. National Park Service are collaborating with local Indigenous groups to carry out controlled burning. By thinning the trees, this practice reduces the severity of wildfires and allows biodiversity to thrive. RE:TV’s month-long season dedicated to the forest bioeconomy is still underway.
