"Can we make the built environment actually help restore and regenerate the planet?" Buildings are responsible for almost 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions. It's clear that urgent action is needed to decarbonise the sector, but many industry leaders believe we can aim even higher. RE:TV's month-long season dedicated to nature positive buildings is at its apex. In our brand new hero film, experts including Dave Cheshire from AECOM, Kathleen (Katie) McGinty from Johnson Controls, Jose La Loggia from Trane Technologies and Janine Benyus from The Biomimicry Institute examine the true potential of the built environment. How can our buildings have the same ecological performance as the wildlands next door? We're thrilled to share that two RE:TV films – The Speeches and Freetown the Treetown – picked up Dolphin Trophies at the 15th Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards 2024. While awards for individual films are always welcome, we see these trophies as recognition for the work of all the people who have helped shape RE:TV over the last few years. In particular, we should single out Anatole Sloan, Zoë Jones and Alana O'Neill who did such a fantastic job on The Speeches. They pulled together a stellar cast of actors, activists and environmental campaigners to revisit some of the most inspiring environmental speeches made by the King when he was Prince of Wales. Watch The Speeches here: https://lnkd.in/grtbF8T3 Freetown the Treetown was a very different story. Bracken Hollings and James Browning worked with a local crew in Sierra Leone including Michael Duff to capture this innovative approach to urban reforestation. Watch Freetown the Treetown here: https://lnkd.in/eE6EiSPK Thank you to our talented contributors for sharing your insights and expertise, and to our dedicated RE:TV team for working to bring these films to life. #CannesCorporate #CannesCorporate24

“Ensuring that our language thrives is important so that we can evolve with the changes as we adapt to climate change.” Indigenous knowledge is a valuable tool that can help us protect biodiversity and adapt to the changing climate. As Liam Kokaʻua points out while at COP 2023, there is scientific information embedded in Indigenous plants and place names that could provide clues as to how we can adapt to our changing climate. Over the next month at RE:TV we’re exploring the topic of regenerating oceans. "Every $1 invested in disaster mitigation actually saves at least $4 of disaster response money." Small Island Developing States are vulnerable to storms, hurricanes and cyclones – all of which are intensified by climate change. Without insurance, the impact of natural disasters can be even more devastating. As Rebekah Clement from Lloyd's explains, the insurance industry can support disaster resilience in these nations by providing financial protection against extreme weather events, enabling rapid recovery. This month at RE:TV we’re exploring the topic of regenerating oceans. To learn more about the role of insurance in building coastal resilience, watch the extended interview with Rebekah on our newly launched hub: https://lnkd.in/euunPumQ Discover how Lloyd’s are working with other industry leaders to accelerate change as part of the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Insurance Task Force: https://lnkd.in/ggJz8P8

"The Rasa is an electric car, but it doesn't have any batteries. It runs on hydrogen." Former Formula One engineer Hugo Spowers MBE is steering us towards a sustainable transport future. Following circular design principles, he and his team at Riversimple have built a car that only emits water vapour. The Rasa is powered by #hydrogen that passes through a fuel cell to create electricity. This then flows to four lightweight motors – one on each wheel – that give the vehicle impressive acceleration. Since we filmed with them back in January 2022, Riversimple have continued to drive innovation in clean energy tech. They were invited to join the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Hydrogen Task Force, and recently, they were named as a 2024 #BE100 company by Blue Earth Summit for breakthroughs in personal mobility and sustainable business. Coral reefs are our most biodiverse marine ecosystems. They play an essential role in regulating the oceans while also sheltering coastlines from waves and storms. In the Maldives, extreme weather events like heatwaves have caused mass coral bleaching. The Soneva Foundation's coral propagation programme aims to repopulate the reef, restore coral cover, and allow aquatic life to thrive once again 🐠 Their coral nursery is one of the biggest in the world, generating 150,000 coral fragments per year with a process called Mineral Accretion Technology (MAT). These can then be transferred onto the natural reef. 🔗 To learn more about this exciting project, visit our digital hub filled with reports, case study films and expert insights: https://lnkd.in/euunPumQ 🔗 Discover how Soneva are working with other industry leaders to accelerate climate innovation as part of the Sustainable Markets Initiative's Hospitality and Tourism Task Force: https://lnkd.in/egGJgGH2

"These coral reefs have been protecting us against storm surges, protecting us against flooding." Small Island Developing States are home to 65 million people around the world and a remarkable amount of biodiversity 🪸 These nations are responsible for less than 1% of greenhouse gas emissions, but they are disproportionately impacted by the changing climate, leaving them vulnerable to natural disasters and debt. As Marine Scientist Dr. Deborah Brosnan explains, nature-based solutions could hold the key to environmental and financial resilience. With governments, the hospitality industry, and local communities all working together, we can restore marine ecosystems and foster a vibrant blue economy. This month at RE:TV we're diving into the topic of regenerating oceans. To learn more about investing in Small Island Developing States, watch the extended interview with Dr. Brosnan on our newly launched hub: https://lnkd.in/euunPumQ

"If we really want to keep flying, we need to do it with a low carbon approach." Commercial airlines use 100 million gallons of jet fuel each year. As Jennifer Holmgren points out, to ensure the future of aviation, we need to source an alternative 🛫 LanzaTech have an innovative solution. With the help of a biological progress that harnesses traditional fermentation, they are using bacteria to create sustainable aviation fuel from captured carbon. Since we filmed with them in July 2021, LanzaTech's influence has continued to skyrocket. As Jose La Loggia from Trane Technologies explains, buildings are the low hanging fruit in our push to cut global carbon emissions. The sector has a monumental chance to become part of the solution. To realise this future, Jose is working to make buildings as energy efficient as possible. This begins with integrating renewable energy production, heating and cooling, and energy storage so all systems function in unison. Cost is often posed as a barrier to change, but these sustainable technologies can have very short payback periods – sometimes within two or three years. They can also be implemented in both new and existing construction. 🔗 Visit our digital hub to watch Jose's extended interview: https://lnkd.in/evBMwwhf
