Essentials of Humanitarian Data Analysis is complete! 🎉 Last week we trained humanitarians in Amman and Nairobi to make life-saving, evidence-based decisions in emergency contexts - and to train others to do the same.   The sector needs people with analytical expertise, based on a strong methodological foundation and a solid theoretical framework. Professionals joined us from UN agencies, international, national and semi-governmental organisations. They are senior researchers, program analysts, and MEAL managers, working in refugee assistance, protection, and data management. One year ago today, catastrophic flooding hit the city of Derna and the surrounding area in Eastern Libya. The disaster impacted approximately 1.5 million people – 22 per cent of Libya’s population. In partnership with the H2H Network, we trained humanitarians in agencies working to respond - Libyan NGOs like ASARYA, Mafqood Initiative, and LRCS, and international actors like UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme), IOM - UN Migration, and UNDP. We also equipped local humanitarian experts like Basma and Yousra to pass on their knowledge through running training programmes for others. This week, we reach the one year anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Morocco. On 8 September 2023 more than 3000 people were killed, and half a million people were displaced. Earthquake resilient construction techniques, tailored for specific contexts, reduce risk for future disasters. The bitesize trainings we developed in partnership with Jersey Overseas Aid and Arup included a new module on repair for vernacular buildings. We designed this module to build future resilience specifically in the Moroccan context, where many historic vernacular buildings were destroyed. More than a thousand disaster response professionals worldwide have since gone on to train with those modules, including humanitarian engineers from Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Türkiye, and Ukraine. 🌍 #MoroccoEarthquake #HumanitarianEngineering #EarthquakeResilience
