Once again in this year's Annual Report, we share a wealth of people data which details gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic and disability information. Across the whole firm, 4% of our people identified themselves as having a disability. Hearing and learning from people's experiences is a critical part of the journey towards inclusion. The City has one of the worst track records for employing disabled people. However, senior disabled people aren't giving up. Howard Taylor, who was born with cerebral palsy and and is a lifelong wheelchair use, is a The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) grad who is a director in PwC’s risk and compliance transformation consulting practice. Janus Henderson Investors' Sarah de Lagarde, who lost an arm and a leg in a Tube accident, became the first woman with double prosthetics to reach the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in September Ex-PageGroup boss Steve Ingham CBE, became a permanent wheelchair user after a skiing accident in 2019, but that didn't stop him from growing the recruitment giant to nearly 10,000 employees in 37 countries. HSBC's head of operations Jonathan Scott-Lee, who has #ADHD and #autism, thinks neurodiverse workers can prove critical in protecting banks. Business Disability Forum's Diane Lightfoot told us “there’s not a one-size-fits-all solution here” but the sector needs to step up to fix the “fairly stubborn” disability employment gap.
