Two reasons why focusing on narratives today is essential: #1 Human beings are storytelling creatures. Narratives shape our perceptions, which in turn form our realities and end up influencing our choices and actions. That's why narratives have always been a powerful force shaping culture and society. But today narratives operate on a whole new level. Most of our experience of reality is now mediated so what used to be the certainty of facts emanating from direct experience has been replaced by the persuasive power of the stories we hear and almost everything can become narrative. #2 The scale of information distribution and diffusion today are such that a narrative can summon a whole new reality for millions of people in literally minutes. And that's why understanding narratives today is more crucial than ever. Now, there's increasingly a lot of talk about Narratives in our industry. But not a lot of clarity on what is a narrative, how do you use narratives as a research and strategy approach, what does a narrative look like from a data standpoint and what do you do with it once you spot one. Today I’m lucky enough to have the floor at The Social Intelligence Lab’s Observe Summit in Chicago with Monica Tailor to tackle the hard questions and showcase the best methodologies to detect narratives, predict their impact on the audience and explore practical use cases from branding, creative strategy and all the way to marketing effectiveness.
