It was a pleasure to host the MP for Blyth and Ashington, Ian Lavery, at the Port of Blyth last week! Ian headed out on the Blyth Pilot alongside our Chief Executive, Martin Lawlor OBE, where he was able to see first-hand some of the impressive capabilities of the Port of Blyth, including the fantastic cluster of offshore energy companies based on the Blyth Estuary and the all-new Energy Central Learning Hub, creating pathways to the latest skilled careers in the clean energy sector for young people in the North East! It was also great to see the Happy Star heavy lift vessel making an appearance on her way out of Blyth!🚢🌊 We are delighted to be able to work with Ian and look forward to collaborating with him in the future to ensure the best possible opportunities for Blyth.

The vessel’s design incorporates the latest sustainable technologies to reduce its carbon footprint and is equipped with 2 cable carousels, providing a total cable-carrying capacity of 8,000 tonnes. With the addition of Calypso to our fleet, we strengthen our position in the rapidly expanding offshore wind sector. After the Nexus, the Calypso is our second cable-laying vessel. By investing in state-of-the-art equipment like the Calypso, we are anticipating an increase in scale in the offshore wind industry and contribute to the energy transition. Port of Blyth were delighted to support the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm project, marshalling over 150 pin piles at up to 290 tonnes each! This project demonstrated the Port's unique handling capabilities, using heavy lift cranes including 600T crawler cranes and SPMTs to handle and store the piles. It is exciting to see the NnG offshore wind farm now generating power into the national grid, highlighting another positive step towards achieving the UK's net zero targets!👏

We have big news: our Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm is now generating power into the national grid. This marks a significant milestone in the development of the project, which is owned by EDF Renewables UK and ESB, and based off the coast of Fife. When completed and fully commissioned next year, NnG wind farm will generate up to 450 MW of clean, green electricity.
