What impact might the historic Low Carbon Economy Investment Act have for the Philippines' role in regional decarbonisation? Pollination's Heng Dean Law spoke with the The Manila Times as they take a look at the situation for their weekly column 'All About Choices'. The Philippines is the only ASEAN nation without a declared net zero target, but recent passing of the Act signals a promising framework for the country to simultaneously address decarbonization and stimulate economic growth. This potential was discussed and debated by panellists, including Heng Dean, at the Eco-Business Manila event: Unlocking Capital For Sustainability. Pollination is working with companies and leaders across the region on transition strategy and execution as Southeast Asian corporates move ahead with the complex process of decarbonising their businesses. We're in Karratha this week, sharing progress on the East Kimberley Clean Energy Project with the Developing Northern Australia Conference. Interest in the project, and the Aboriginal Clean Energy Partnership that is developing it have been overwhelming, showing a growing appetite for new ways of partnering with Traditional Owners. Pollination Head of Projects Rob Grant and Kimberley Land Council CEO Tyronne Garstone told delegates the project -- which involves building a large-scale solar farm to power a green hydrogen and green ammonia export production hub in the East Kimberley -- is progressing well . "With the ACE partnership having 75 per cent Traditional Owner ownership it allows us to have co-design and co-decision making at the heart of this project," Tyronne Garstone said. "We're ensuring that we are deciding who we will partner with and how the project will work on our country -- making sure we stay true to our social, cultural and environmental values." Rob Grant said Pollination was proud to be an equal shareholder in the partnership, alongside MG Corporation, Balanggarra Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC and Kimberley Land Council. "To this partnership Pollination is bringing our clean energy development expertise, as well as our connections to capital and industry," Rob said. "When we combine this contribution alongside our partners’ land, Country and culture it makes for a powerful and impactful partnership." We were thrilled to host a breakfast event for Women in Sustainable Finance at our Sydney office this week. The unofficial theme: When the climate transition going gets tough, the tough are getting going. Pollination Managing Director Beth Keddie observed that the transition conversation has shifted from one marked by big ambition and distant targets to a new phase where the hard slog of achieving change is underway, amid challenges around technology commercialisation, supply chains, capital allocation and more. Net zero transition was never going to be easy but it is vital that companies generate and maintain momentum if they are to mitigate transition risks and grasp opportunities on offer. Pollination's view is that those who have made the most progress and are set up to reap the benefits are those who have made their ambition a strategic priority and connected it deeply to their core business. The event heard from leaders who have done just that, embedding sustainability into their business in order to prioritise and deliver successful transition. Such actions are now more important than ever, as Australia prepares to welcome new sustainability reporting standards in 2025 and as the nature and biodiversity agenda becomes more prominent, joining climate as a set of risks and opportunities that corporate leaders need to understand and respond to. ‘There are two big reasons why boards need to be concerned about nature – and you can switch off now if they aren’t relevant to your business,” Pollination's Sarah Barker told a packed auditorium at the Australian Institute of Company Directors Climate Governance Forum... “One is money. The other is the law.’ Climate and nature related risks are no longer fringe issues for corporate Australia. With the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards Bill passing the senate, it is now undeniable that Australia’s largest corporate entities will face elevated corporate reporting and transparency requirements from 2025. Sarah, who leads Pollination Law's governance team, told the gathering of directors from many of Australia's leading companies that they already have a positive obligation to consider foreseeable financial risks (and opportunities) from nature -- with due care and diligence -- as they pursue the best interests of their companies. And as new reporting standards arrive, corporate obligations to understand and disclose when it comes to climate and nature are only strengthening. Our expert team can support you to get ready for ASRS and help you get serious about understanding how your company impacts and depends on climate and nature. Pollination's Singapore Managing Director Heng Dean Law spoke with Cheryl Tan from The Straits Times about Singapore's growing relationship with Ghana as a supplier of #carboncredits for companies looking to meet their obligations under the nation's carbon tax regime. Heng Dean said that while the demand for credits in Singapore may not be internationally significant due to the nation’s small size, the emphasis on securing high quality and high integrity credits will send a signal to the rest of the global market, which can help to stimulate the development of high-quality projects. As the future of the SEC mandatory climate disclosures for public companies in the US hangs in the balance, regulators elsewhere are pressing ahead with their own disclosure frameworks - many of which will affect US businesses. Pollination's John Morton spoke this week with Elizabeth Meager at FT Sustainable Views about the SEC's rule. He says that claimants pursuing its withdrawal have missed the point.   “Companies that consider themselves satisfied if the SEC rule fails may have won the battle but they’ve lost the war, because they’re going to be disclosing in Hong Kong, Tokyo, the EU, Britain and California soon. What exactly have they accomplished? Now they’ll just have to disclose 15 different ways in other jurisdictions.”   “If you believe — which regulators do unanimously — that climate change represents an emerging and increasing risk to the stability of the financial system, then corporations need to disclose their exposure,” says Morton. “These claimants do not answer the question of how investors are supposed to allocate funds without this information.” Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/gZCQG_vg
