We recently sat down with Playstack's incredible Community Manager of a little over five months, Emma Smith-Bodie, to find out a little more about her 👇🏼 • What was your first job? • My first proper job was as a part-time Library Assistant. This is back when people still used libraries and my favourite part of the job was putting the returned books back on the shelves. There’s nothing more satisfying than sliding a book back to its correct Dewey Decimal place! • What led you to this career? • My love for gaming and my nosiness about people. After years in television and the charity sector, I’ve been able to combine my passion for games with my communication skills. I’ve always enjoyed encouraging people to get involved in something - whether that’s donating to a worthwhile cause or for their five minutes of fame on television - and now I get to encourage people to try out amazing games! • Favourite game? • The Mass Effect trilogy, hands down. Despite its flaws, the story is incredible, the companions are like best friends and it was the first game I was able to choose to play as a female which meant a lot to me. I replay the games every year or so. I even have an N7 tattoo because I am Commander Shepard at heart! • Favourite thing about your job? • Working across such a variety of titles: I’ve been exposed to a broader range of games than I had been before and I get to work on such interesting games, with their talented developers and for their passionate communities. Before receiving Playstack’s Best Places To Work award, our amazing HR & Office Manager Carmen Martino attended GamesIndustry.Biz’s HR Summit, where she was able to connect with a number of HR professionals from across the games industry. It was an incredibly informative day, thanks to the talented organisers, speakers and moderators who packed the day with takeaways: Christopher Dring, Sheila Attwood, Emma Smith (Pg Dip CIPD), Gina Jackson OBE, Hayley Blundy, Craig Duncan... just to mention a handful. Below were Carmen’s top three takeaways: 1️⃣ Employee Retention & Wellbeing: Retention efforts are stronger when companies prioritise wellbeing, action on engagement surveys, and offer flexible working options. Data shows that organisations focusing on employee experience report up to 70% positive experiences! 2️⃣ AI in HR: While generative AI can streamline processes like recruitment and data analysis, it’s crucial to manage risks, including bias and intellectual property issues. Always keep a human in the loop! 3️⃣ Bridging Generational Gaps: Understanding and addressing the diverse expectations of different generations is key. The determination of younger people can help a lot to raise awareness on mental health or to increase transparency and clarity in relation to career path and needed skills. Conveying the same message in appropriate styles and channels is at the heart of it all and... regardless our ages, we all can learn from each other! #HR #Leadership #AI #EmployeeEngagement #WorkplaceCulture
