Sustainability is improving human development outcomes within the environmental limits of our planet, say Stewart Investors, who see it as a more encompassing concept than ESG. In their 2023 sustainable investment annual review, they share highlights of the year, including collaborative engagement on conflict minerals in the semiconductor supply chain and their partnership with the Waste and Resources Action Programme to tackle plastic waste in India. #SustainableInvestment #ESG #PensionsforPurpose https://ow.ly/OopZ50TB0ws

Pensions for Purpose were pleased to host a dinner last night for DC master trusts in partnership with Schroders. The Pensions Regulator and the Financial Conduct Authority attended and were keen to hear views from the master trusts. The discussion focused on value for money, consolidation, investing in the UK and private markets. Special thanks to James Monk of Fidelity International Master Trust, Stephen Watson and Veronica Humble of NatWest Cushon Master Trust, David Butcher of Scottish Widows Master Trust, Natalie Winterfrost of SEI Master Trust, David Brown of Smart Pension Master Trust and Jenny Swift of Aon Master Trust for attending and contributing to the discussion. Takeaways were: - There was a consensus that focusing on value would benefit savers, encourage greater innovation and extend investment choice. However, low cost is deeply embedded and it will take interventions in the advice process and a more forward-looking approach, as well as regulatory change, to shift the culture. - There is scope for consolidation of legacy DC pots into the master trust platforms. However, to scale this potential, the regulations need simplifying. - There was interest in investing in the UK. However, it needs to be in the interests of savers with appropriate risk and return. - DC master trusts are increasing their allocations to private markets, with facilitation from long -term asset funds, but they require significant resource and so work best at scale. The climate transition, benefit adequacy and the new CDC regime were briefly touched on. We look forward to working with the industry on some of these challenges and changes. Thanks also to: Lorna Blyth of Aegon, Paul Kitson of EY, Stuart Murphy of Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), Ben Lewis of Mercer, Tim Horne, CFA and Richard Fox of Schroders, Duncan Hale of Schroders Greencoat LLP, Callum Stewart FFA of Standard Life UK, Sam Grutchfield of The Pensions Regulator, Martyn James of now:pensions, Mark Cliff of Vidett Limited, Nike Trost of Financial Conduct Authority and Richard Giles of Pensions for Purpose.
