We love hosting events here at Parallax, and last week we joined forces with Corecom Consulting to host the AI focussed #womenintech event 'Beyond Bias: Building inclusive AI-driven organisations'. We had three wonderful speakers in Shirley Stackhouse, Sophie Galpin & Keeley Crockett who talked about the role of AI in creating a safer, and more supportive and diverse environment. They addressed how building responsible AI requires a commitment to high-quality, diverse data for impactful results. That the importance of including marginalised voices in AI development is essential to prevent bias and promote fairness. And that staying vigilant to the evolving AI regulatory landscape is critical for responsible innovation "be a Meerkat"! Here at Parallax we've been reducing our energy consumption through the development of smart tech. We've developed lighting and heating systems internally to help reduce usage, and recently installed a roof full of solar panels to start giving back. And despite being certified Carbon Negative, the day to day running of an office makes CO2 output inevitable. With the help of 9Trees CIC, we're offsetting that and helping to balance our team's personal carbon footprint by planting 50 trees. 9Trees CIC do this by creating sustainable, native, broadleaf woodlands around the UK. By planting the right trees in the right places they're also promoting biodiversity and enhance habitat corridors. 📣 On Thursday 10th October, two of our team are joining our charity partner, Simon on the Streets for Simon’s Big Sleep Out, braving the weather and sleeping outside Leeds Civic Hall to raise awareness about the challenges of homelessness and the work the charity do as an outreach team. One night spent sleeping outside could never replicate what someone facing homelessness is going through. However, it does offer the ideal platform to shine a light on just a few of the obstacles homelessness can bring, even if only for a few hours. Chris Nightingale and Jo Dutton are having one last push to raise valuable funds 💰 to help keep the Simon on the Streets outreach team out in the community and supporting those experiences homelessness.
