Researchers from our Global Epilepsy programme are looking to address the global burden of epilepsy - especially in lower-income countries - by launching a dedicated Centre for Global Epilepsy at Wolfson College, Oxford, University of Oxford. The centre will collaborate with key research institutions and epilepsy clinics worldwide, linking expertise from high-income settings with those in less resourced environments to drive advancements in epilepsy research, diagnosis, treatment, and care. How can the food choices we make today transform the future health of our planet, and ensure future generations thrive within #planetary boundaries? Around the world, the food system is a major driver of environmental pressures and biodiversity loss. There are vital choices in both the production and consumption of food that we must make now that could radically reduce these pressures, and secure a liveable planet where future generations can thrive. Paul Behrens, Associate Professor at Universiteit Leiden and Global Professorship at Oxford Martin School, spoke to us at the Villars Summit about the crucial work of transforming our food systems to tackle #BiodiversityLoss and #ClimateChange, ensuring a sustainable future for all.

In 2022, the UK issued its first ever heat warning and temperatures soared to 40 degrees in London. Climate change means this extreme weather is the new normal. This collaboration between University of Oxford, Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment - University of Oxford, BBC ideas & Social Sciences Division, University of Oxford was an amazing opportunity to raise awareness of the research being done into #ExtremeHeat and #SustainableCooling. We aimed to highlight innovative approaches to cooling, starting with ancient architectural techniques designed to keep spaces cool, to modern passive cooling strategies – that may help turning off that air con, keeping cool and reducing the environmental impacts of cooling.
