Today’s confirmation of £22bn of funding over 25 years can help kickstart the UK’s Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) sector starting with the deployment of the Hynet cluster in Merseyside and the East Coast Cluster in Teeside and Humberside, known as Track-1 clusters. We've launched our CCUS insight report today, speaking on the launch, Michael Tholen, Sustainability and Policy Director at OEUK said 🗣️ “This is an important day for the UK’s nascent carbon capture sector that cements a commitment to decarbonisation and net zero and secures long-term activity for the industry and its supply chain. Industrial decarbonisation, low carbon hydrogen production and the provision of low carbon dispatchable power needed to meet the new government’s 2030 target, will all rely on the successful deployment of these clusters. With CCUS, the UK can maintain reliable supplies of energy, cut emissions, generate jobs and create huge export opportunities for communities up and down the country. CCUS is a core pillar of the North Sea Transition Deal, a transformative platform that capitalises the power of the UK offshore energy industry to help the UK meet its Net Zero targets. The Deal has provided a solid platform for industry to engage with governments and regulators to help achieve the decision announced today, which is a positive step in the right direction. The report we launch today shows that starting work on the first two clusters is only the beginning. To fully harness the potential of CCUS and achieve the UK’s 2030 deployment targets, progress must speed up. Leaders of many projects remain uncertain about their eligibility for government support or when they can expect it. A clear plan for deployment beyond the initial clusters is critical to establish a steady flow of work for the supply chain. While 27 CO2 storage licenses have been awarded so far, more than 100 will be needed by 2050, requiring the rapid and sustained growth of the industry. The UK offshore sector is ready to meet the challenge, but relying on foreign expertise and technology makes no economic sense. Instead, enhancing our existing oil and gas supply chains which have highly transferable capabilities to CCUS should be a top priority.” Press release: https://ow.ly/bung50TE5Vw Read the report: https://ow.ly/5bPM50TE5Vx

This new film from Serica Energy plc brings to life the stories of offshore workers and their onshore communities. Their testimonies are showing what should be the way forward: A fairer fiscal regime for the sector which incentivises investment and jobs; domestic production for new and existing fields that will help deliver the oil and gas we still need; and done in a manner which is compatible with the country’s decarbonisation and climate objectives. The oil and gas sector contributes about £25 billion a year to the UK economy, supporting around 200,000 UK jobs, many of which are under threat from potential Government policies. Today we are proud to share 'A Town Called Bruce', a film, made with Brindex and the GMB Union, shedding light on the hopes and fears of some of our colleagues who work on our Bruce platform. These stories have parallels on many other platforms and with many other families. #ATownCalledBruce The film can be viewed on our website https://lnkd.in/ekmdiQHc

Last Friday, our Supply Chain team gathered with members at the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland - a truly inspiring venue! Together, we discussed the topics of transformation, innovation, and collaboration.   From exploring digital solutions in whisky distilleries to cutting-edge precision metal forming for shipbuilding, the day was filled with valuable learning opportunities.   💡 Here are some key reflections from our discussions: - How can we enhance collaboration across the industry? - Transitioning from a mature OPEX-driven landscape to a dynamic CAPEX-intensive future hinges on manufacturing innovation. - Sharing our knowledge—both successes and failures—is vital for the survival of our industry.   A huge thank you to NMIS for hosting us 🤝

We're launching a new research tool which will provide governments, skills bodies, and the energy industry with enough information to ensure the UK has the right people with the right skills in place at the times and locations where they are needed. The research was commissioned by OEUK as it was recognised that simplifying the skills landscape is a key element in the drive to make the UK a leading clean energy industrial power. The data framework is called the Energy Industry Skills Landscape, and was commissioned by OEUK from Dr Christine Currie, an independent workforce and skills consultant for the energy sector. It is supported by an interactive dashboard designed to help stakeholders visualise and navigate information about skills initiatives throughout the country. Katy Heidenreich, OEUK’s supply chain and people director 🗣️ “The transition to net zero will involve some of the biggest engineering projects this country has ever seen and it will involve significant challenges in terms of skill supply and demand over the next 10 to 15 years. There are currently more than 170 different organisations administering skills recognition and training, and this is one of the first projects to analyse and map them across the whole of the UK. Matching the skills of the workforce to new jobs in the energy transition will need co-operation between these organisations and newly created bodies such as Skills England, as well as the devolved governments, trade unions, industry, and academia. We must deliver high skilled jobs to achieve economic growth and we know that the vast majority of people working in the oil and gas industry have expertise that can be transferred to new jobs in low carbon alternatives. This research makes the case for an industrial strategy with a joined-up approach to promoting accessible skill and training opportunities at all levels. We look forward to sharing it.” Read the report ➡️https://ow.ly/CoUQ50TCkp2 Access the interactive dashboard ➡️ https://ow.ly/jcuP50TCkp1

Offshore wind energy a £12 billion a year UK investment opportunity 👇 Speaking at the 2024 Celtic Sea FLOW (Floating Offshore Wind) summit held at the Eden Project, Britain’s premier bio-sustainability showcase at St Austell in Cornwall, Offshore Energies UK director Katy Heidenreich outlined how OEUK members are building 13GW of the government’s production target of 55GW of wind energy by 2030, and the need to pull together investors and businesses with the capacity to make this ambitious energy production target a reality. Katy said 🗣️“There will be a lot more offshore wind capacity towards the end of the decade and into the next, some of this driven by licences in the Celtic Sea, which will offer a huge economic boost to the Southwest of England and Wales. We have an energy supply chain with over 50 years of expertise in delivering large scale oil and gas capital projects, and a workforce that will be vital to delivering our ambitious offshore wind programme across the whole of the UK. This upcoming wave of new energy investments is a strategic opportunity for the oil and gas supply chain to diversify its revenue streams, enhance its capabilities, and extend its reach into international markets. However, none of this is a given. All requires huge investment – by 2030, an average £12bn per year will be needed. Industry and government must come together to build a detailed investment plan to scale up UK supply chain and make it competitive while benefitting the regions. An industrial strategy across the energy sector is needed to deliver 2030 net zero power and 2050 net zero and provide sustainable growth for UK plc.” Read More ➡️https://ow.ly/RMRj50TAegY
