My role at Odqa is to help George make sure the solar receiver doesn't melt itself! When the power of the sun is focused onto the receiver by the mirrors, the receiver can reach temperatures above 1000C - it's really important that the receiver is able to transfer as much heat as possible to the system without being damaged." 📚 Expect the Unexpected: “The most unexpected and interesting thing I've learned here is that there isn't a clear right answer to a lot of situations! It's really up to you to justify your decisions and to problem solve effectively - I find that very liberating considering the way STEM is generically taught." 🌞 Other Ray of Light: "If I could swap roles with anyone in the team, I’d choose Kenny Pokwang. 🌞 Celebrating a Bright Anniversary on the Summer Solstice! 🌞 One year ago today, on the longest day of the year, we demonstrated Odqa's breakthrough air-based solar receiver in the first real sun test in Cyprus. 🇨🇾 📸 Featuring photography from our Head of Engineering Mark Loasby, who captured this moment of our receiver in action at the exact minute of local noon on the solstice, when the sun reaches its highest elevation. Mark used a camera converted to be only sensitive to near-infrared light, resulting in a striking photo with unique lens flare from internal reflections.✨ As we celebrate this milestone's anniversary, we're proud of our talented team and the progress we've made. Odqa is thrilled to be part of the FLUWS project, aiming to revolutionise thermal energy storage (TES) for next-generation solar power plants! ☀️🔥 The TES system will use air as a heat transfer fluid and recycled materials from the ceramic industry to ensure high efficiency with minimal environmental impact. Odqa will play a key role in guiding the integration of the FLUWS TES with high-temperature Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) systems. Our Senior High-Temperature Materials Engineer, George Wilson, represented Odqa at the kick-off meeting at KTH Innovation in Stockholm last week. The consortium discussed the project's objectives and had the pleasure of touring KTH's cutting-edge laboratories.
