As we reflect on nearly two decades of innovation, we want to take a moment to celebrate the remarkable 19-year journey of NIRI | Next-Gen Fibres & Nonwovens. From humble beginnings as a spin-out from the University of Leeds, NIRI has grown into a global leader in materials science. Today, we’re proud to offer a comprehensive range of science-driven services to the fibre, textile, and nonwoven industries, supporting companies worldwide in their pursuit of excellence. Our journey has been marked by hard work, continuous learning, and a strong sense of teamwork. As we look forward to the future, we’re excited to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in materials science. Here’s to 19 years of progress - and to even greater things ahead!
Thanks to LinkedIn for reminding me that I’ve been at NIRI | Next-Gen Fibres & Nonwovens for 19 years. In that time we have transformed the business from a 4-person start-up at the back of a University of Leeds department to a leader in materials science for fibres, nonwovens and products. We now offer science-based services to the global fibre, textile and nonwoven industry, with expertise and facilities for polymer synthesis and formulation, extrusion and fibre spinning, fabric prototyping and functionalisation and advanced material analysis. NIRI helps companies around the world to develop their products, understand markets and applications, scale-up new fabric designs and solve industrial problems. It’s been 19 years of hard work, perpetual learning and not taking ourselves too seriously. Roll on 20 years!

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Ross Ward will be presenting at the 63rd Dornbirn-GFC 2024. Ross will talk about innovative strategies for PFAS replacement in fibre and nonwoven development, showcasing some real-world examples. With new regulations in the EU and US, and growing health concerns around PFAS, the textile industry is facing significant changes. Ross's presentation will cover various solutions to reduce or eliminate PFAS while maintaining product quality. Joining Ross in Austria will be Dr. Matthew Tipper, NIRI CEO and together, they will be available for meetings and discussions in the exhibition area. We invite you to book meetings in advance by contacting us via DM or emailing [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you at Dornbirn GFC 2024! #PFASReplacement #TextileInnovation #DornbirnGFC #NIRI #PFAS #ForeverChemicals
The need for PFAS replacement is disrupting the textile industry, with revised EU and US regulations on the horizon and growing evidence of exposure contributing to organ disease, cancer and reduced fertility. Intelligent fibre and fabric innovation can contribute to supporting PFAS replacement across the textile industry. Ross Ward, NIRI | Next-Gen Fibres & Nonwovens presents in his presentation detail fibre manufacturer application development strategies for PFAS replacement, including case studies. PFAS additives and coatings are often applied to fibres and fabrics to introduce chemical and thermal stability and exceptional oil, alcohol and water repellency. Companies are now challenged to explore options to reduce or eliminate their dependency on PFAS while maintaining product performance. This is no small undertaking, as no single route to PFAS replacement exists. Potential solutions will likely incorporate PFAS-free additives or coatings, intelligent fibre designs, and textile constructions. Lecture time: Thursday, September 12, 11:50h, Hall B: https://lnkd.in/d4WANw4x NIRI | Next-Gen Fibres & Nonwovens will also be part in the exhibition area of the Dornibrn GFC 2024. 63rd Dornbirn GFC 2024 & 4th Dornbirn GFC Innovation Day, 11 - 13 September, Dornbirn, Austria, Live in person & Online Programme + Information: www.dornbirn-gfc.com #fiber #circulareconomy #technology #sustainable #sustainability #fibercongress #dornbirngfc #textileindustry #fiberinnovation #circulareconomy #sustainable #sustainableagriculture #fibercongress #dornbirngfc #recycling

Great to see NIRI CEO, Dr. Matthew Tipper, and CCO, Dr. Ross Ward, front and centre at the EDANA, the voice of nonwovens's Innovation Forum in Munich. This event is a hub for groundbreaking discussions on innovation in nonwovens, exploring themes such as sustainable materials, advanced technologies, and NIRI is proud to support it! Matt and Ross have already engaged in insightful tabletop discussions (see attached photo!) with leaders and key decision makers across the industry. Today marks the second and final day of the forum, promising more dynamic workshops and networking opportunities. Have a great day at the forum if you're in Munich! ----- #edana #NIRI #innovation #sustainability
🙌 Exciting first day at the EDANA Innovation Forum! 💡 Joachim De Vos told us that 'we cannot predict the future, but we can invite it' and explored innovation. Did you know that 86% of market value losses are due to strategic risks yet companies only spend 6% of their time on the topic? To drive innovation, we also need good market data. Jacques Prigneaux offered some insights on the 2023 nonwovens market. We then dived into two topics: Innovation in technology and innovation in applications. Thank you to our speakers Carmine Cimini, Lucie Souvy, Adrián Rama, Thomas Weigert from Trützschler Group, Florian Pohlmeyer and Michael Hartmann from AUTEFA Solutions for sharing their journey and engaging the audience. 🙏 Great ideas are fueled by great conversations: there were plenty of occasions for participants to network. Thank you to our exhibitors and sponsor for their support NIRI | Next-Gen Fibres & Nonwovens, GESSNER, KANSAN - Wet Wipe Machinery and Equipment, Fiberpartner, Hammer-IMS for their support. We look forward to another intense day tomorrow!
