Niab is a partner in a new international research project! The Novo Nordisk Foundation has awarded £5.6 million to the Wheat Alliance project, led by Molecular Biology & Genetics - Aarhus University. The project focuses on identifying genetic components that enhance wheat’s capacity to benefit from soil microbes. This initiative aims to improve nutrient uptake, reduce environmental stress, and boost wheat production, especially in low-input farming systems. We are recruiting a technician to work as part of our friendly NIAB Potatoes team. The role will support field trial delivery, monitoring and post-harvest processing, as well as liaison with farmer hosts and customers. Niab's Hilary Papworth and Margaret Wallace were in Geneva this week at the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) Technical Committee (TC/60) session. Hilary delivered the summary report for the Technical Working Group for Ornamental Plants and Forest Trees. Margaret provided a summary of the outcomes of the TC sub-group reviewing the format of the Test Guidelines and possible improvements to the online drafting tool.
