Realising the potential in events to combat global challenges

About us

Connecting the events industry to global challenges. As a pro-social organisation, we partner the events community with global challenges, to realise a common vision; when great minds come together, great solutions can be found. We advocate, we promote environmental transformation; we work with New Intent. We are a diversity, equality/equity, inclusion, and environmental advocacy organisation. We work with partners and members to educate, advocate, research and promote the role of events in creating positive social transformation across the world.

We love what Sydney Nolan said. 'We're absolutely kidding ourselves if we think the MICE industry — and individual MICE professionals — can escape the impacts of politics and can afford, culturally or economically, to remain apolitical anymore.' Is being apolitical equal to 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲? What does it say about your brand and what your actual values are as an organisation? Sydney, you've inspired some research and a potential new blog. Watch this space!

An American in Dublin aspiring to never be brilliant at breakfast

The quote tweet below is (presumably) a sardonic joke from a Washington Post journalist, but it perfectly addresses a question I've been ruminating on quite a bit lately that's getting louder as the world ticks off more electoral results and November creeps closer. We're absolutely kidding ourselves if we think the MICE industry — and individual MICE professionals — can escape the impacts of politics and can afford, culturally or economically, to remain apolitical anymore. I sincerely hope to engage in more discussions about this, with those who have voices and platforms louder and wider than mine!

The ICCA UK&Ireland chapter are champions. Not just because they launched into a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) session with passion at 9am, kicking off outside in a brisk temperature, but because the chapter demonstrated that they are champions of DEI. Uncomfortable conversations were had. Honest discussions took place. Opinions were respectfully debated and real stories of challenge and success were shared, all in a safe environment where judgment didn't enter. Thank you to the inspiring panelists, Rachael Molyneux, Holly Patrick, Gordon Dow, and Samantha Shamkh for their insights, experiences, and advice. We must 'speak about' inclusion before we can 'speak up' for inclusion. Before we can advocate and educate, we must first understand. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤? Are you attending the ICCA UK&Ireland Annual Conference this week in Belfast? Prepare to blow away the cobwebs on Friday morning with a deep dive of assumptions & stereotypes. 📢 Wrap up warm for '𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤: 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧.' Privilege is incredibly intricate and it is a layered experience. How you are treated is never isolated down to one characteristic. This is called intersectionality. The privilege walk covers lots of different areas – 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫, 𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐬𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝, 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞. The culmination of all of these different traits deems how society treats and values you and none is any more or less important than the other. 📢 Next we move inside for '𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩' Naturally our society creates assumptions on what different demographics experience through life. You may have ideas from social media, TV or friends. What are these assumptions? 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬? In this workshop you will join a group to discuss a demographic of which you are not a member and discuss the challenges and/or assumed privileges of that sector. This will be a safe space to share ideas, to learn and understand reality and take steps in reducing discrimination in our industry. 📢 We round off the morning with '𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬-𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥.' Join Rachael Molyneux, Holly Patrick, Samantha Shamkh and Gordon Dow as we discuss the findings of the assumptions workshop and delve into real experiences with audience engagement. 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬? There is only one way to find out....be there on Friday! How do we create greater, more diverse content-focused association events? How do we create that feeling of belonging where sessions speak to everyone? What are the challenges we face? What does success look like? What mistakes have we made that we can all learn from? Rory G. Archibald is speaking at Evolve with a stellar lineup on just this subject in London on Friday, 9th February. Only with discussion, debate, and sharing of knowledge can we embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion. Join the discussion! https://lnkd.in/gdSXDx64 #EvolveConf24 #BusinessEvents #Events #EventProfs #Associations #DEI
