🥇 Is the success from the housing teams working harder or does your supplier adapt with you to deliver joint success? 🥈 I have seen a lot of posts recently on linkedin around how suppliers have worked with their customers to provide results during difficult times, such as covid and cost of living crisis. However, what I want to understand is whether this was because the supplier changed the way they support their clients - or was it down to the brilliant work done by organisations coming together with the tools they already had. After working around the housing sector for the last couple years I have had numerous conversations with organisations around how slow suppliers can be to make any changes to their systems to adapt with the times or to just make improvements. It always seems to come back to the reason that it’s housing and that’s acceptable. Often because if customers wanted to make changes quickly, they would have to develop something themselves which is then slowed by budgets. From conversations an example would be with income teams over the last couple years with covid and cost of living. This has put a lot of pressure on staff to support tenants in these times but also maintain arrears levels, leading to the teams having to adapt and change which tenants they prioritise and how they communicate with them. With all this having to be done rapidly to support those new tenants who haven’t been in these positions. Can you say the same about your supplier? Can you adjust thresholds and escalations there and then? Can you change response plans without a delay? By the time these changes are made has the damage been done? Which leads me back to the question around is the success from the housing teams working harder or does your supplier adapt with you to deliver joint success? Take other sectors for example such as retail. Can they afford to stand still in a crisis and expect customers to just use the standard processes they had? No things change and change rapidly. I’m sure we have all made the most of the better experience of ordering online in front of the TV straight to our door, which has remained a successful process from covid. I have included a link to Croydon Council who have utilised the technology of low code to give them the edge when combating challenges thrown at them such as Covid where they rapidly developed standard capabilities within the first two weeks to result in an automated and more efficient team. Not only has this work benefitted Croydon but with the use of AppShare they can support other organisations with similar problems at pace. Would love to hear people’s thoughts or experiences across all sectors on having to adapt and change to challenges? 💡
