How can eDNA data help us maintain the health of our oceans? 🧬 Our Founder, Kat Bruce, took part in the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)'s latest webinar to talk about how our eDNA tech is being used in various ocean projects, including her recent expedition rowing around Great Britain. With the Blue Economy valued at over US$1.5 trillion per year and projected to double by 2030, we want to continue raising awareness of how vital ocean health is, not only for the environment but also for its interdependence and connection with the global economy. As Kat explained, we’ve developed our eDNA kits to make sampling simple and easy to integrate into everyday operations across all sectors, including the cruise industry and offshore wind industry. Recently, we collaborated with Natural Power and EDF Renewables on a first of its kind project to validate the use of eDNA for fish surveys at offshore wind farms. The aim was to determine if eDNA could provide equivalent or superior data quality while significantly reducing costs and environmental impacts associated with traditional fish ecology assessments. Here’s a snapshot of the results: → 70% more fish species identified using eDNA compared to traditional trawling, plus marine mammals and seabirds → ~40% reduction in vessel time required for surveys → Only 1/3 of conventional personnel resources needed → 59 fish species detected within turbine array, previously inaccessible to trawling → 60+ invertebrate species identified from water samples, including benthic organisms eDNA has been proven as a powerful tool for assessing ecology, promising faster, cheaper, and more comprehensive biodiversity insights across project lifecycles. 📺 Watch the full webinar to learn more: https://ow.ly/TrIj50TwZpT

We're still buzzing with excitement from The Earthshot Prize Finalist announcement, but more than anything, we're filled with immense gratitude. This recognition isn't just an accolade; it's a call to action and a powerful reminder of the work that lies ahead. It strengthens our commitment to advance biodiversity measurement and champion data-driven decision making for nature worldwide. Through this journey we’re proving that nature-positive business is not just possible, but an essential path forward. As our founder, Kat Bruce, aptly puts it: "It's increasingly clear that addressing these crises requires changing the system, and that doesn't come from a single solution; it comes from #innovating everywhere, all at once - including in the technological, societal, regulatory, legal and economic spheres. The Earthshot Prize is unique in recognising efforts across this whole spectrum." We've taken this moment to pause, reflect on our journey and outline our vision for the future in a new blog post. We invite you to read it: https://ow.ly/vk2z50Twgis As we look to the future, we're more committed than ever to expanding the frontiers of eDNA technology and nature intelligence. We're deeply grateful to all our employees, past and present, whose dedication and hard work have brought us to this point. Corporate leadership need to champion biodiversity initiatives now. As leaders take part in New York Climate Week, important conversations and debates are taking place, but what’s needed is decisive action. To better understand where businesses stand, we analysed the latest results from our Nature Maturity Assessment - our free tool that assesses your companies current nature stewardship. There is a clear takeaway → companies lack the knowledge, technology, and executive sponsorship required to meet incoming nature-related obligations. How can organisations align their ambitions with their readiness to disclose? There is a clear mismatch between companies’ commitment to disclosure and their actual data collection practices. This underscores the importance of top-down leadership in driving nature-positive strategies. But it’s not all doom and gloom! While overall maturity scores indicate significant room for improvement, sector-specific strengths and the positive impact of governance and education provide clear pathways for enhancement. Solutions to tackle these challenges are emerging. We're deeply honoured to have been recently named as one of the 15 finalists for The Earthshot Prize in the 'Protect and Restore Nature' category. This prestigious prize seeks to uncover and scale innovative solutions to our planet's most pressing environmental challenges. Being recognised alongside other groundbreaking initiatives reinforces the importance of actionable biodiversity data in driving positive change. Our CEO Dimple Patel, Founder Kat Bruce and Director of Sales Laura Plant are on the ground at New York Climate Week. Make sure to connect with them to discuss how our solutions can help you achieve your biodiversity goals. Flying the Climate Stripes - A Call for Urgent Action on Climate Change. Keith Tuffley and the crew of the Northwest Passage Ocean Science Expedition have already spent over 100 days at sea, covering more than 13,000 km on a mission to map the state of the Arctic. Today, they’re flying the Climate Stripes, delivering a powerful message: our planet is rapidly warming, and we must act now. Sailing through some of the world’s toughest seas, they've crossed 6 of the 9 global tipping points located in the Arctic. At NatureMetrics, we share their passion for raising awareness of this critical region, often called the "world’s refrigerator," which plays a vital role in sustaining life on Earth. The Climate Stripes sail is a timeline, visually showing the rising global temperatures from 1850 to 2023. Each red stripe is a warning of our warming world. The timing couldn’t be more crucial, with Climate Week NYC happening next week. As global leaders gather to discuss climate action, these insights will help fuel the urgent conversations and decisions that need to be made. During their voyage, the crew has collected eDNA samples using NatureMetrics' kits. We cannot wait to analyse these samples to shed more light on the state of nature in the Arctic and help raise awareness of its critical role and global impact. Stay tuned for the results! 🎥 Ocean Science Expedition/ Ramon Gonçalves, MEDIA.etc #OceanScienceExpedition #TippingPoints #ClimateStripes #ShowYourStripes

What is the status of Dutch biodiversity? Our Global Head of Business Development, Sander Keulen, spoke with Het Financieele Dagblad about how eDNA technology can help map the current state of nature. As the Netherlands faces the most severe biodiversity loss in Europe, urgent action is essential. It's great to see the country embracing innovative technologies, including eDNA, in its efforts to combat this decline and restore natural ecosystems. Which types of companies should be concerned? All of them. But speaking about our clients’ diverse needs, Keulen explained that we see growing demand, particularly from banks and major insurers, for data that show the economic consequences of biodiversity loss. Some of the other important questions highlighted in the article are: Is biodiversity declining or improving, and should we act?’ At NatureMetrics we help organisations address these questions through our eDNA technology and nature intelligence, which drives data-driven decisions on the ground. With this knowledge, our clients can make a meaningful impact in their biodiversity conservation efforts.
